Plymouth Rock thread!

I'm just REALLY, REALLY glad to see some BYC'ers getting involved with some of the more rare color patterns in rocks:

Blue
Columbian
Silver Penciled

I think we really need someone to step up, find a mentor and get something going with the Buff, Partridge and White Rocks (I am running out of room here for anything else and DW has threathened me with "monk-ship" if I build any more coops/pens). I love my chickens, but celibacy???!!!! Forget it!

Call Ducks.....did your CRs come from a Hatchery or thru a Breeder? We have not hatcheries down in the states that carry them. I did get a few eggs from a guy who has hatchery birds (long story as to how he got them) and the birds I hatched from these parents DEFINITELY feathered at a much more rapid pace than the ones I got from Jerry Powell (breeder in Ohio).

Undercolor was also VERY different. Breeder birds tended to have a dark grey/slate undercolor as the chicks feathered while the chicks from hatchery parents tended to have a mostly white undercolor.

I tried twice to hatch out some nice WRs no go so I'm trying the SPs and hatched 2 one just died for no apparent reason and I have 6 incubating right now these are from Ugly Ducky I have Hatchery Partridges some from MM they are 19 weeks and getting very beautiful but they are small and flighty. I ordered some from Cackle and they are a little bigger way more friendly but too young to tell out of the MM's I have 2 pullets that look good and 2 roos that are okay. I never see any Partridge Rocks from breeders and I don't know if I'll be keeping them depends on how they turn out.

Does anyone have any pictures of their 7-8 week old BR chicks and can definitely tell me which ones turned out to be girls and boys.

I have two and would love to compare my chicks to your pictures to get an idea what they might be.

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!

Well, I am working with Barred, Blue, Columbian, Partridge and Silver Pencileds. Plus I'll be getting some Buffs again this fall. White Rocks do need help, even though there are a lot shown. Most don't have any body to them any more. They are a bunch of feathers only. Plus they are getting too big. This may open a can of worms, but I think breeders need to start weighing their birds. Rocks are supposed to be 9 1/2 pounds, but I've seen some 12 pounds and heavier and that is not what they are to be.
