We have easter eggers that are busy making olive eggers ..... can't wait to see those eggs.  They are currently residing with a Splash Marans Rooster.  After they have acomplished that task we are thinking we want to work on increasing the size of our easter egggers.  We have had a blue wheaten ameracauna roo over them to increase the flock numbers.  He did add a little size but not much we were quite happy however with the addition of the blue in the birds.  I am not aware of a larger blue egg variety to use?  We want to preserve the blue egg with this flock.  So, we think we'll need to go with a large white egg layer.  The Buff Cantalana roo is about eight pounds, his coloring would mix nicely I believe.  What would F1 eggs look like from a blue x white egg cross?  Would we next breed F1 x F1 or go back to either the blue egg or white egg layers?  Looking forward to whatever insights you may provide.  Mike

Here's a better pic of Joe. His comb is larger than Buffy's, pinker, and has three rose of bumps to her one. I'm pretty certain he's a he. But I'm absolutely willing to listen if I'm wrong.

We picked up two Wellsumer and two EEs, knowing we would only keep one of each. I have to pick one of the EEs, and my youngest daughter is rather attached to Buffy, so she gets to stay weather or not Joe is a Zoe after all.

CSWolffe   Do the "conformity police" make rounds to count the number of chickens that you have in your backyard ?  Or is the number restrictions self imposed ?

Your two EEs are very good looking BTW !

They are very pretty, thank you.

My municipality only allows six hens, and I have a nosy, jerk of a neighbor who has reported me a dozen times for any number of imagined violations. I have never once been sited, for anything from having too many dogs to unlicensed vehicles to noise ordinance violations, and I plan on keeping it that way. He already complained once about the chickens, and was furious when he was told I was perfectly legal. So yes, the Conformity Police do come by, and we laugh at the impotent frustration of my neighbor as they once again have nothing to cite me fore.

Yes I have the same problem.  My neighbor has reported me a half dozen time and I have been written up and assigned a court date which I ignored and nothing else has been heard from anyone for months.  Of course I no longer keep my full grown birds here but I do hatch and keep my chicks in the garage. It is a good thing that I can not keep them here at home because this external pressure keep me in check   gig.gif

But I do understand your dilemma.     Fussy neighbors   blah   sickbyc.gif

I still say Joe is a Zoe. The coloring is a hen color. How old are they? Depending on the age the more red comb and larger coumb could just mean she will start laying soon. That comb is definately not big enough to be a rooster comb.

ETA: I could be wrong. I have hens that are that color. I'm sure the experts will correct me if I am wrong.

They are both between seven and eight weeks old, I think. I have been told by others that Joe has roo coloring, and his/her comb is much larger and pinker than Buffy's. Either way, he/she has to go live on the farm with the other Wellsumer. Even if I could be guaranteed Joe is female, she would still have to go. I can only keep one EE, and my youngest daughter is too attached to Buffy.

They are both very pretty birds, and it has been fun to watch them grow and develop. Had I known last year what great birds EEs are, I would have gotten a lot more, a lot sooner.
