The EE braggers thread!!! - Page 653

Here is my latest Delawegger cockerel (Delaware x EE--the hen is 1/2 BW Ameraucana1/2 EE), who is about 9 1/2 weeks old. No crowing yet.

Gideon will be my second in command in the main flock with his daddy, Isaac, if Ike will accept him in about three weeks when he goes in there at just over 12 weeks old:

Hi Everyone!  I recently hatched 5 Easter Eggers who are about 8 weeks old.  I bought the eggs, hoping to hatch out some future colored egg-layers!  (Their eggs were a pretty bluish-green.)  Unfortunately only 2 of the 5 look like pullets to me based on comb size and color, shiny feathering and behavior.  If I post some pictures can anyone help confirm which ones are the young cockerels that will need a new home?

th.gifThe thing that confuses me is that the "girls" seem to be the one growing their feathers in slower and I thought the boys were slower.   Anyway, here are some pictures:

3 of the black ones look exactly like these pictures:

Then there are the two I'm hoping are girlsfl.gif (The white one named Angel)

The black one we named Ebony (in front with "her" eyes closed):

I would love opinions on gender.  They'll be 9 weeks old on Friday.  Also, if anyone can explain why the two with the smaller/paler comb and smaller sized bodies are growing their feathers slower.....I'd love to know!

Here are my two EE's!  The little brown one got beat up by my MIL's Old English Game Hen a few weeks ago. :( But she is so friendly and often flies up on my shoulder to hang out.  The Silver one is a little older and I hope she's a She.  "She" is very protective of Poppett (the brown one) and is about 2 weeks older.

Top black EE is roo, white is a hen, bottom black one is a hen.

Liz, wife, mom to 4 boys and  "food lady" to a mix of mostly Ameraucanas & EE's with a few oddball breeds for fun. :)

Thank you,Indigosands!  That's exactly how I called it too.  I appreciate the confirmation and hope the 3 roos stay quiet until I find them new homes.

I have to share a crazy happening about these little characters -which I wouldn't believe if I hadn't seen it!!!!  Last night when I went out to lock the coop, I did headcount!  One of the black EE was MISSING!  I figured one of the little cockerels must have been off on his own when the others went into the coop to perch for the night.  I began searching the yard and shrubs hoping to find him so he wouldn't have to spend the night outside in the cold.  Poor little thing, right?  About that time, my son came outside to help me lock up and help me find the stray.  (My son has a gift with animals....or he is just plain dominant and knows how to handle them, anyway)  Before I walked 10 more steps, my son walked out of the coop carrying "Mr. Puffy Face"!  I asked him, "Where did you find him?"  He replied, "He was under Buffy with the baby chicks!"  Let me explain...Our Buff Orpington has 3, 3-week old chicks in her nesting box which she guards with her life!  UNDER Buffy is the LAST place I would have expected to find a 9 week old EE rooster!  I don't know HOW he managed to gain access to the nesting box, let alone crawl in beside the little chicks!  It did make me consider that all chicks really would prefer to have a Momma hen instead of a brooding container. hmm.png  Have a great day, everyone and enjoy your chickens. smile.png
