EE can be a mutt but isn't always.

Ok not a "breed" but then why all the rules?  They have green legs, beard, pea comb.. yadda yadda.  Wouldn't that be closer to a Ameraucana?  I swear I'm not trying to be difficult but it just does not make sense to me.  LOL   Oh well!

Opal is pretty and she reminds me of my Greta as a chick, who also resembles Cheeka's "blu".  Here's Greta at 15ish weeks old, she's lost a lot of the barred feathers in favor of gray flecked with red since this photo was taken.  I imagine Opal will look similar to this, but the fun is not knowing right?  My white and red hen with a gray head popped two charcoal grey/black looking laced feathers on the back of her neck today at 18weeks old.  Every time I think she's finished she changes her colors again!  :)

There are not rules to BE an EE, just traits that disqualify from being Ameraucana or Araucana.

Just my thoughts.

Just remember that if you have a black (or any of the accepted colors) Ameraucana rooster and breed it to a hen of the same color, all of the offsprings will look exactly like the parents or in proper language "breed true".  Hatcheries call any bird that lays blue/green eggs Americana because they don't know how to label them Easter Eggers. Ameraucana breeders have worked very hard to raise birds that breed true to the standards that have been set to call a breed a a breed and it is annoying to them that any bird who does not meet the standard is incorrectly labeled.  This topic comes up here every other week !!!!

There are RULES that make them Ameraucana.  No rules with EE, there are indicators they are not Ameraucansa and thus EE like green legs.  I personally don't like the green legs so I don't breed in ways to create green legs.  I prefer the whiteish or slate legs.... that i just me.  EE also don't have to have a beard and muffs, but again I like them so I am trying to breed toward that too.   EE are just fun, you never know what you are going to get with the chicks, makes it fun to guess what they are going to look like as adults.  I also like the NO RULES, makes them easy to breed.  big_smile.png

I got 2 EE chicks in the spring hoping for 2 pullets. Well I ended up with a pullet and a cockerel.  Ended up rehoming the Cockerel to a Uncles farm since the wife wasnt too keen on having a roo.  We stopped by the farm yesterday and i snapped a picture of him.  Wish I could of kept him, he's turning out to have pretty colors. Its hard to see in the picture but theres a block on his wing that is BRIGHT blue almost like a mallard.  Wish I didnt have to rehome him.
