EE's can have glorious beards

legs that are not slate . wrong for or unapproved color or pattern. A ameraucana that does not lay a blue enough egg are all reasons. probably more I am not thinking of.

Aha, thanks cheeka! Your bearded chickens are lovely!

Ya know, this little pullet has always been slower to feather out compared to all the rest. She's always looked scraggly so I didn't pay much attention to her little feathery beard til it hit me yesterday that she is getting a beard!!!  When I went to lock them up last night I made hubby come over to see it. LOL

All of my EE's have beards. Anything that lays a blue or green egg and is not up to the breed standards is considered an EE.

This morning when I went out to let the babies out I took the camera with me to get shots of my bearded lady! She is 9 weeks old. This is Teriyaki  :-) Needless to say, I am a little excited! celebrate.gif     Doesn't take much to make me happy, it's the simple things in life....awwww!

She is so pretty! Keep us updated on pics when she grows up, I haven't seen one quite that color before. Do you know what breeds are in her?

3 Welsummers, 8 Cinnamon Queens, 2 Easter Eggers, 1 barred rock, 1 Blue Wheaten Ameraucana, 1 leghorn/ameraucana cross, 2 RIR and 7 EE/OE chicklets, 6 rabbits, 1 mischievous housecat, one Catahoula bulldog, and one amazing husband to share it all with!  Just call me coop queen!

What are Easter Egg chickens?

The Ameraucana Breeders Club defines an Easter Egg chicken or Easter Egger as any chicken that possesses the blue egg gene, but doesn’t fully meet any breed descriptions as defined in the APA and/or ABA standards.  Further, even if a bird meets an Ameraucana standard breed description, but doesn’t meet a variety description or breed true at least 50% of the time it is considered an Easter Egg chicken.

Here is the standard for Ameraucanas

http://www.ameraucana.org/standard.html

Egg color is not something a Judge at a show would judge a bird on USUALLY.  They really mostly are looking at the standard for type and color.

I do cull for egg color when I can.  Greenest eggs go to the Olive Egger pen.  I don't even want green eggs in my EE pen ..... just my preference.

Anyway, I took some pictures of my Cressida today, so I thought I would do some EE bragging before bed. wink.png She's finished her molt, so before today's pictures, here is a comparison pic of just before her molt:

And during her molt (just because she was so happy about it) :

And finally, this evening on the perch:

Her beard got so floofy!! wee.gif

I love her beard! Floofy is the perfect word to describe it love.gif

Just hatched out a bunch of EEs again. This time we have some barred EEs. Hatched out of blue eggs, so ones with pea combs should lay a green egg woot.gif

In case you guys haven't seen this picture yet. All 4 of my EE girls are laying sky blue eggs. I won a plaque at the show (Reserve Champion Egg Entry!) They went up against all standard sized eggs big_smile.png
