I fixed that nonsense about tails the other day, but it may return...good to keep an eye on it since anyone can make changes.

Amanda, I set one of your roosters as the primary photo from the ones you uploaded. It was a better bird than the one that was primary to start with. (Anyone can change that, too).

I haven't seen a bantam category, either someone should add bantam info to the standard breed page or make a separate breed for them.

Aubrey or Toni would probably do best with the bantams.. I think they have the most experience with them.

Glad you brought this to our attention. This way we can personally be involved with informing the public about the breed. I actually like that a lot.  It says ranked #33 in chicken breeds, does this mean we actually effect how our breed is ranked?

yep Soli,

was just about to come back on and say never mind. I saw it was edited. I have been after Rob (Nifty) about making it where we could change that crap off there, good to see. The only thing I noticed is, whites are in the standard now too though if I'm not totally mistaken.

I've asked him about doing a bantam page as well, he said they are working on it in this change over and would let me know when  they had it to where we could make separate pages based on size. He had a thread going and had asked me to be a part of it. It was specifically about revising the breeds pages. Just an idea thread for a better version for all.

That was one of my points, have a large fowl and bantam page as many are different, The APA and ABA recognize different colors a lot like in the sumatra page, just edited a bit of that too,,,haha.

Also deleting a lot of the , well just very bad breed info and actually having them written by experienced keepers, instead of some one who never even owned a bird, just read it on a webpage. Cull the junk pics and put good representatives of the breeds, etc...It got kinda heated for a while, the backyard, hobbyist were saying breeders wanted to run BYC, their hatchery stock was just as good as any show breeders birds,,,bla bla bla   They missed the point. It's supposed to be an educational tool, not a my birds better than your birds contest.

When someone is looking into a new breed Accurate info and pics are a must,  leave your ego and hatchery stuff  out of it, unless you have an outstanding bird, the who cares where it came from...well looks like they got it where we can fix all that now

Ranking comes from user reviews I think. You can choose to write a review in addition to an article, image, or editing the description, but when you do a review, it asks you to give a number of stars for the item (in this case breed). I think that is where the rating comes from.

I was hoping some more experienced folks would help with the description and keeping the general page correct - that's why I posted here after a few days of no one else fiddling with it ;) Glad to see y'all are on board to keep it correct.

What is your plans for your white roo you posted?....TM

Hello everyone. I wanted to post some pics of the chicks I have hatched from my white roo from Cy Hyde and my hens. The hens I have are from Cy, Aubrey, and Toni-Marie Austin. The bird from Toni is a LF black. I really need more blacks. All of the chicks are white, even the one from the black hen. Does this mean that my roo is dominant white? I am keeping very close records since I am mixing colors. The white chick that I hatched from Toni-Marie's black hen looks to be a roo. Would it be ok to breed him back to his mother? I would get some more blacks that way, right? Also, she is a LF and my rooster is a bantam, I know the offspring will be somewhere in the middle, but I'm sure with careful breeding, they can be shrunk down over time. Any feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated. Of course I am always looking for new breeding stock too. Is anyone else working on black Phoenix right now? I am in love with these birds. They are not only beautiful, but friendly as well, even the roosters.

3 week old chicks:

So that gives me 8 chicks to start with for this year plus the 5 adult birds that I have already. If anyone would like to swap eggs so that I can get some new bloodlines, or if anyone has started adults or chicks, please PM me. My adults are not laying much now, but I am sure that they will pick up in a month or two.

most likely the white you got from Cy is a  rec.  cream pyle actually. Cy calls them white. I never noticed the faint tell tell signs til Toni told me.

They will have very very faint salmon breast, it's most visible on my hen from him, the rooster doesnt show much color at all.

Knowing that, plus what you got off the chicks, yes he should be dominate white.

With dominate white, the first cross will always be all white, yes now if you take that cockerle back to a black again, you should get a 50-50 ratio of black and white chicks.

The whites you got from me are recessive whites, most are over silver duckwing, some over birchen.

Might want to use one of those roos over the black hen too, all should be black then.

As for breeding down, yes it should slowly get you there. Best to use a bantam hen for faster results from what I've found.  BUT, I did this too this year with some of Toni's LF Schubert blacks.

Bred them to Cy's bantam  lavenders I have. Had several  goals, 1) make bantam blacks, 2) help the lavenders, they still arent perfect, 3) try to help the color on the blacks a bit.

What I got of course was all blacks, very clean too. Size wise, I didnt have any inbetweens, they were either full sized, or they were bantams...which surprised me a bit.  So it all depends, you may infact get to bantam quicker than you expect.

I'll be breeding these bantams again this yaer, hoping to get some real nice lavenders back out as type wise these look great now. Also hoping to get a lot more blacks too to continue with my bantam projects.  Didnt you get some lavender from CY too? Might want to try  them over Toni's black girl if you did.

here's a pic or two of them

Here's one standing next to the lavender bantam to show size comparison

well I got to go re learn how to post pics here now, my old method doesnt work any more

I got some of the males in my photobucket ...just cant figure out how to add them yet??
