Chicken eggs smelling bad.

People did hatch with a light and a bowl of water, back before incubators were common. At least he threw 2 out. But who knows, the others might actually hatch?

Just keep sniffing them, and pitch out any that start to smell or ooze liquid. Handle them very carefully, they will explode!

Uh oh, I just had a thought- has Dad been turning them 3-5 times or more a day? Turning is crucial until Day 18, when you go into "lockdown".

He has been turning them atleast twice a day, but I read that it should be atleast 3. Some are oozing liquid, but he can't tell which. He cracked one open and said there was a baby inside, but the smell was horrid.

I asked him to throw them out, but he said he would if they didn't hatch around the 19th. (21st day) It's stinkin' up the house!

Why do the eggs explode? And also, would an incubator like this be okay?

I'm not sure of the differences, but we're a bit strapped for cash.

Why don't you boil a couple of eggs to trade out for those stinky ones when he's not looking

I think he just wants something to do, he owned a ton of Rhode Island Reds at our house in Utah. He built them a huge coop with A/C and everything but our neighbors complained about the crowing in the morning, so the animal control had to take them.

He only wants to hatch a few, my mom would probably have a heart attack if she woke up and saw 20 little chicks walking around the house.

And read what ya said about being strapped for cash in this thread...the person whose dad this is...my advice: watch Craiglist and Ebay. Depending on how much cash you are strapped for, some really good deals are out there for GQF models. Saw a few go last week for $150 apiece.
