I am almost sure she has pneumonia, she is gasping for air with every breath. She is 5 months old, will not eat or drink, she is a brahma chick. She is pooping fine for now. Two days ago she broke her foot. I've been soaking her foot in Epson salts water. I don't know if that caused pneumonia. I just went and got injectible Penicillin but not sure how much to give, can someone please help me.

Not sure it's pneumonia, but the penicillin injectible dosage is 1/2 cc daily in the breast muscle, I think. Tylan50 is more recommended for respiratory stuff than penicillin (same dosage, though, for both). She couldn't get pneumonia from you soaking her foot in warm water, IMO. Pneumonia is usually a respiratory infection gone way bad, not the first thing you'd see. Sometimes, if birds are crippled and cant walk and always have to lie down, they will get pneumonia like an invalid will, but I'm not sure what is wrong with your pullet.

Thank you for your reply Speckledhen, I sent you a PM about giving her pen. by mouth. Can't get pen liquid to go into her breast meat. Needle may be too small. Please Help

If you are using PenG, it is thick and needs a larger gauge needle. I give my birds between 1/3 and 1/2 cc daily for 4 days (pretty much what Speckledhen said. Plus, might I add that she has MUCH more experience than I. I just wanted to add the higher gauge needle part since PenG is thick!!

Thank you Bakerchickens, my son told me it probably was too small. OMG I feel so bad, I stuck her three times. Should I even try to stick her tomorrow when I get a bigger needle or is there any possible way I can put under the skin of her neck OR even give by mouth?? Directions says use the muscle.
