Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

OMG, there really is a Jersey Giant thread!! :thEvery time I talk JG I feel like I’m talking about a rare, newly discovered species. Nobody knows them, nobody knows where I can get more. My rooster Hero (avatar pic) is the 2nd love of my life, I bought him 2nd hand and never found his breeder. My girls Mary (blue/black) and Raven (black) are so lovely. Mary’s mom was a Maria Hall, her father (the black) was from a breeder in NJ, I can’t remember the name. Raven was also bred from that breeder’s stock. I am so afraid to get hatchery grade Jerseys, but I might be forced to this coming spring, I can’t find anyone who breeds them locally (southeastern PA, 60 miles west of Philadelphia). Any ideas on where to get some near me?

I will return for further reading!:love

Wow this thread hasn't been very lively lately, has it? I'm in northeastern Ohio and I'd also like to find a source, preferably for chicks but I suppose I could look into getting an incubator. I got some black hatchery giants last year and I like them a lot; now I'd like to get the "real thing." I'm hoping to find blue and splash, but wouldn't mind adding a couple of whites too. (I've just started allowing some part-time free ranging and my giants are way smarter than my Brahmas. The Brahmas in particular seem to forget where the gate is lol.)

I have one BJG. Very sweet girl. Never seen any aggression towards any other chickens or chicks in nearly 2 years I had her. She has never been broody which could be good or bad depending on what you want. Lays well I would say 4-5 out of 7 days.

I want to get a Jersey Giant hen. I currently have Plymouth Partridge Rock, Ameraucanas (including 2 roos), and some Reds. Would there be any issues with integrating them all? Think my roos would try to jump the JG?

I’m hoping to get a jersey giant hen and see if my rooster will successfully fertilize her eggs(he’s a silkie…) but if I manage to get that I’ll come here to show the babies :) a silkie jersey giant sounds so cute.

Just have to find some in Alaska and get more space in my coop…

I find my Jerseys to be of good temperament. It depends a lot on how they were raised; i.e., if you get chicks & spend lots of time handling them as young 'uns, they typically end up as trusting & well-adjusted adults. I admit that I don't have a ton of time to spend with my flocks, but I do try to hand feed them & get them used to being handled early. I've never had a "problem" rooster in the Jersey breed.
I think similar to you. I've a jersey giant roo adult and generaly is some problematic, I beliver that is why I not happen very time with my chicken. Sorry for my english, I'm practice.
