according to Storey's Guide to Raising chickens......a hen lays about once every 25 hours!
My Red Cochin Frizzle layed 2 eggs in one day. They were both big nice eggs.

She was a BBB turkey and she was getting big. She weighed 24# dressed out. She was also acting a bit funny so that is why we went ahead and butchered her before she died and it was too late for us to process. I was sorry to see her go. Her and Tom (he dressed out almost 30#) were neat turkyes to have around. We didn't know about the about the internal laying until we did the deed. We smoked her up last weekend and the meat was delish!! Smoked it for 24 hours.

What did you do with the 21 egss?
momreda, I was not home when the deed was done. My DH says that there were masses of egg yolks spread out in her. Someone posted a pic on here of their hen and my DH says it looked just like it. They were not in egg shells. So I'm still not sure if that is called internal laying. Our neighbor was here helping and he was stunned as well.

We only have four chickens, so it is easy to determine when the numbers aren't accurate. But this is the third time that we have counted four eggs per day and then one day we find FIVE!! Then four for a week or so and then five again!! I know I'm getting older, but I've never had a problem counting to five on my fingers!!
This is what led me to ask the question about a chicken laying two eggs a day! But I suppose that if, according to one account, a chicken lays about every 20 hours, it could occur once in a while to look like five in one day!!
