Have you thought about ordering Wyandotte chicks?  If so, I highly recommend the Foley's (Mr and Mrs Turbo).  They have beautiful birds!  And it is SO much fun to get that peeping box full of fuzzy chicks!

:flHi everyone! I have been a lurker on this thread for a while while I was trying to decide what breed to replace my mixed layers with...I narrowed it down to Coronation Sussex or BLRW and guess who won??? LOL!

I am hoping to have some BLRW's on the way this spring!

One question I have is my hubby loves his Barred Rock and Delaware...will their eggs be dark enough that I will be able to tell them apart form the BLRW eggs? From looking around it seems that Wyandotte eggs are pretty light compared to the eggs I am getting what do all of you experts think?

our BLRW eggs range from a very, very light brown to a med. brown and sometimes they have speckles on them just like I think Hoppy posted a couple pages back.

Blrw eggs are a light-medium beige and will be smaller than the other breeds you have. You will be able to tell them apart.

Thanks Mrs. Turbo.
I sure hope they do. Got some characters that I am attatched to in the group.
Alice, Saphire, Mischief, and Doris are my favorite girls. Rupert is the sweetest boy (lowest on the roo pecking order).
Got 2 black boys that I am watching to see how they develope for possible breeders.
The biggest of the 5 boys is Big Boy who is blue. Big Boy is also the biggest chicken of them all. He always tries to hide under the girls when spooked (which seems to be alot).

you will have to wait and see what kind of eggs your line of BLRWs lay..... here is tray of our BLRW eggs that are getting ready to go into the incubator..... the 3 white ones are large white eggs from the store (don't ask)...LOL  Some are smaller, some are the same size, and some are a little larger and are not double yolks...they come from some of our larger hens. We have been working on getting the BLRWs the same size as the SLWs and the egg size has also gotten bigger.

I am the email girl of the house so I read them all and pass along some to Turbo...nice to meet you smile . I didn't see Jamie at the Shawnee show, I thought she was going???  Oh.....and Santa already did his shopping so I don't think there will be a camera under the tree. wink

Haha well I guess you do know me a little bit then.  Nice to meet you also smile   Yeah Jamie wasnt able to go the Shawnee show either.  She was disappointed the same as I but she couldnt get away.
You are too funny.  Guess he will just have to wait and see if Santa brings him one next year.  I keep asking for a new  pistol each year but Santa doesnt ever seem to bring it either!
Maybe one of these days I will make the trip to come see ya'll also.  I keep reading about you wanting to move....you should move to Texas if you like warmer haha!!  Its green here, except when there is a drought........My sister in law lives in Illinois and my wifes family is from Minnesota, NO WAY would I want to live up there!  Too much snow, too cold and too much of hassle.  There's some more bullets for your argument....I could get you a list if you want it haha...

Thanks for the info! Worst case if he wants to keep the BR and Del he can do the food dye thing if I want to collect hatching eggs! I don't think housing them with the silkies would go so well! tongue
