(Non-hatchery stock) I know Foley's is taking a break from orders, and I've ben hearing rumors that Paul is no longer taking orders (but again, could be a rumor). I am on a waiting list with a breeder in OR, but does anyone have other suggestions?

Thanks so much! Off to chat with Peak now :)

Once I get some of the little lovelies hatched out down the road I'll be sure to post pics! Looking forward to playing 'where the Wyandottes' are! They're the only breed/variety I'm adding this year except for some Spotted Australian Ducks.

Check with the BYCer "Katy".  She has outstanding birds.  I think there's a few pics of her birds on page 2 of this thread.  She's had slw for a few years and breeds for the SOP.

I just hatched 8 bantam partridge wyandottes from a good line here in Kansas.  I've not hatched these before, and I notice one chick out of the 8 is darker and doesn't seem to have the "chipmunk" chick pattern, or at least the pattern is not really noticeable, if there.  Can anyone shed any light on this difference?  They came from a farm with no other breed of chicken they could have crossed with.

This is my first time on this thread, so admittedly I haven't read clear through to see if I can find the answer.  I have tried to google and do searches concerning chick color/pattern for BPW's, but have come up empty.  Is this a difference in male vs. female?  Dark vs. light genetic color patterns?  Desirable or undesirable?

Thanks in advance for your input.

hey lady! Long time to see on BYC! Been wondering where you are! I have had large fowl partridge that hatch darker and they always end up being cockerels with a richer mahogany type color. I honestly haven't paid attention to whether there is a correlation of good or bad coloring based on how they looked as a chick...I just know the two I've had ended up being cockerels. Wish i still had them, but the possums helped themselves last fall...so I'm on the hunt for a large fowl partridge boy...grrr

Hi there, Lady!frow.gif I haven't been on the marans thread for a while.  I spend a lot of time on the Kansas thread and several others.  Well, if you are right about the darker, mahogany color then I may have 7 pullets and one cockerell!yesss.gif

I sure hope that's what you end up with, but just not 100% about what the other possibilities might be, as far as indicators. People ask about ya on the Marans thread...I'll have to tell them you are alive! haha I was down your way last weekend going to the sale in Gardner again....crazy sale with high prices, but some nice Marans were there...I brought 7 home with me wink.png

What other Wyandottes do ya have over there?
