Beautiful photos. Here are my hens today. I have two hens and a roo (the roo will be going soon)
They are 5 months old. Should be laying anytime. I just love their lacing!

Here is the Wyandotte breeders of America website. It will help you critique your bird  big_smile.png   I like it because it has drawings.

Mine is around the same size and just started crowing. But is sounds like someone stepped on a dogs squeaky toy. It is actually really funny. Poor fella also sounds like he is choking on his crow sometimes. Roosters are fun :)

Thanks. I do have that and have even sent out some emails inquiring about joining. I haven't heard anything back yet. I've had advice about what not to do, but no honest critiques. It makes it hard. I can pull from my dog knowledge, but that only goes so far. I absolutely love the GLW and I want to see it where the SLW and solid colors are in quality and availability.

I know what my eye sees when I look at him. I need the opinions of experienced breeders. It would be nice to have some guidance.

I think I have limited experience as a breeder, but I have been working on the BLRWs for 2 years now. I have had positive feedback on the birds I am producing. I can only give you my opinion, so here it goes  . . OK, I like his color smile.png  I think his body could be rounder, his feathering fuller and his tail set lower. His head could be wider and the comb should be smaller and closer to the head and I'd like to see his legs a bit shorter. There are very few good gold laced Wyandottes out there so you have your work cut out for you. I think your rooster combined with the right hens is a good start. I found a good combination of lines for my BLRWs and it came from first picking out some physical characteristics that were important me like wide heads and tight combs. When I bred for these two things it seems like the heavier, rounder bodies with shorter legs followed. Along with that, I found a line that gave me the crisp lacing and tone of blue that I so love. It is really hard to get all of the qualities that make the Wyandotte standard but I am having fun working on it big_smile.png  Some of the things that I am still working on is the proper red color, tail set and leg color.

Good luck thumbsup.gif

Thank you!!  This is what I'm looking for.  Any experience is more than what I have right now... I do agree with you on most of your assessment, and you gave me a few more things to think about. He has improved greatly as he matures and I hope he gets better.  The comb just kills me.  I do have a couple cockerels from my first breeding that show improvement in comb and tail set, but they are still young, about 4 months old, so I'm watching them.  Unfortunately, they are yellow, the product of GLWxSLW, so I won't be using them, but it gives me an idea of what Goldie produces when bred to a better hen.  Now to find more of those better hens....

Any other opinions are welcome.  You can't hurt my feelings.  I can't produce better birds until I can clearly see their faults.

I am enjoying the pics of the Wyandottes. I am getting ready to start my flock (have previous experience with chickens) and would like to raise Blue Laced Red Wyandottes this time. Does anybody know where I can get about 10 laying hens and a rooster in North or Central Georgia? If so, let me know.
