Hi from Cape Coral, FL!

Thread Starter

Hi! My name is Dawn. I have been thinking about raising chickens for several years now and the latest program on NPR about domestic chicken raising sealed the deal. I'm just getting started so I look forward to researching the forum and other info available. I also plan to attend the upcoming shows and meet some BYC friends!

(1)  Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? New to chickens!

(2)  How many chickens do you have right now?

(3)  What breeds do you have?

(4)  How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? NPR show

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Girls Scouts

(6)  Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married with twin 6 year old daughters and 1 1/2 year old son. Two cats, 1 dog, and tons of fish.

Hi, welcome-byc from South Carolina!

(another NPR fan!)

Don't get all your exercise leaping to conclusions!

Poultry- they may be your pets, they may be your hobby, they may be your livestock. But remember, if you fall down in the pen, unconscious? They WILL eat you.

So did you ever get chickens?  I too am in Cape Coral and have been keeping a small flock since Christmas.  It would be nice to know other chicken keepers local to me.

Urban homesteader - since 12/21/10 - 1 RIR cockerel , 4 Black Sex-links, 2 white & 1 partridge Silkie roos (4 sale! inquire within!), 1 Ameracuana, 1 bantam red Cochin, 1 bantam buff Cochin, 1 silver Sebright, 1 brown leghorn and 1 silkie/cochin hybrid peep! (RIP little Owl).  We also have 15 quail, 2 beehives, 9 cats, 1 cockatiel, 1 red rat snake, 1 goldfish, 1 Betta, 13 gerbils and 3 mice.
