Dark Cornish Meat Birds

are dark cornish chickens the same as cornish X chickens except for the color?

Not at all. They grow just like a regular chicken. They lay but not as well. I average 7 a day with my 9 Dark Cornish and 2 that are not. They also set very well. Good setters brooders, setters and mothers. They do get bigger and are still great eating.

will the males older than 6 months ve to be separated?

Mine are not separated. They are rather low on the pecking order around other breeds. They are not aggressive. They don't breed as heavily as others so a few roosters more than other breeds doesn't hurt. They real show birds are short and stuby like Cornish X Rocks. I will not own those.
