RIR Breed Thread - Page 30

Dinahmoe your birds look nice, good color, good size, the feathers and tails you can work on, select out of your hatches and look for a trio from someone whose birds are stronger, you are off to a good start.

Icelandics, brought to Iceland by Vikings in the 9th century, winterhardy, freeranging, an ancient homestead breed that broods, a steady producer of white eggs.Very variable in color,  comb style  and feathering. Like Forest Gumps box of Chocolates, 'You never know what you are going to get". My  Homesteader Breeds;  Icelandic Chickens, Chantecler,  Delaware and Iowa Blues.

Hello, everyone!

We are expecting to get our first chicks, a couple Rhode Island Reds and a couple Barred Plymouth Rocks in a few weeks.  We are very excited.

I want to thank all of you for posting your great pictures.

Does anyone know anything about Dwayne Urch's RIR large fowl? I  am thinking about getting 4 hens to add to my flock from a lady who bought them from him last year.

Being new to the chicken world I was wondering if anyone could confirm the breed of my chickens. My supplier (Farm Supply Store) informed me my babies are of the RIR breed but ALL the pictures I see of these beautiful birds they are red (naturally with that name lol) My babies feathers are starting to come in and all seem to be white. Do these birds come in other colors or do their feathers darken up over time?

I'm a new chicken mom, and got two RIRs in my first batch of fuzzbutts 12 weeks ago.  They are supposed to both be female, and for a while I called them "the Lucys".

However ... this one is now croaking - because that's not a crow, not really, it's more like a BAAAW, and then he whispers "ooo00ooo0ooooo!" like he's rehearsing his lines backstage before he goes out again.  Poor babe.  And, for now, I'm calling him Desi.  Because I'm pretty sure he's not a Lucy.

And Lucy - well, she's shy.  Here's a shot of her head, though, in the background.

Any feedback?  Is Desi a boy?  Don't be shy - criticism is fine.

Aside from the human family, there's 6 dogs, 2 cats, 2 roosters, 9 hens, and a bajillion mealworms.
Currently adding to the flock with NINE(!) in the brooder(S)!  Broodercam live feed:  http://tinyurl.com/6kogfax
If I ask you to sell me lavender orpingtons, remind me that I'm insane, okay?
