Red vs white heat lamps for brooders

Red is preferred...it is said to prevent pecking...what size is your brooder and where will the brooder be located? I ask, because you may not need the 250 W. 125 may work just as well...

Red.

Make sure to set the brooder up at least a few days in advance and test it. You need to have it setup just like it will be when the chicks are in there. Include wood shavings, paper towels, etc. Leave it on for a few hours. The check the temperature. This is the only way to know if a 250 watt or a 125 watt bulb is needed. I found that in the setup I used last year I needed TWO 250 watt heat lamps for the first couple of weeks.
