watch your pictures and this ad

I sent message to this guy on Craigs list

Please don’t sell these as Araucana. They are Easter Eggers. Araucana never ever have muffs and I see muffs on that chick like a Ameraucana has

http://gulfport.craigslist.org/grd/2903716660.html

his response was

I'm going to send another message asking why he doesn't use his own pics of the chicks he is selling

At least my Araucana ebay eggs were great - that's what counts, right?!?!?!?

Oh yea, you chose the best person on eBay to get Araucana hatching eggs from!

Those eggs on that ad look dyed, that is, if they are truly Araucana!

Sega - your Blues are really cool looking.  Did you breed these birds, or get them from someone else?  I like!!!!!

Browns & Reds = Olive legs

Blacks = Black legs

Whites & Splashes = Yellow legs

Why are Bantam eggs so hard to find. I know people have them???

Bought the eggs for to much money based on the quality I saw but olive legs is something I need to improve on my birds since theirs are to light

leg color does not identify a breed.  there are several breeds with "incorrect" leg color (barred rocks, rhode island reds, and araucanas just to name three).  indeed, "correct" leg color is something breeders of chickens are constantly working on, but it doesn't mean the chickens are of a different breed.

another example is welsummers (i also breed them) - - they "should have" yellow legs.  you can do a search here and find out there many welsummer breeders who have a hard time with this - - especially as the chicken ages.  it doesn't mean they don't have welsummers, it just means they have welsummers with "incorrect" leg color and are working on "correcting" it.

all of that said, i think it's somewhat silly.  i mean, what if we treated humans that way.  you have the wrong color hair!  you're no good!  pure silliness.  :)

enjoy your chickens.  it's meant to be fun.  life is short.  ;)

on a different note, i adore my araucanas.  they are so sweet.  i don't mean this in a fluffy, cutesy way (however, it is totally cute) - - i just mean, simply, they are sweet animals.  they fly up on my arm, they follow me, they love my attention.  actually, sometimes their neediness is a bit much, but all-n-all, again, i adore them.  they are definitely one of my favorite breeds.  also, their look still intrigues me.  funky and hipster they are.

She is not saying they are a different breed, she is commenting on the fact that the ad is for eggs from show quality  chickens and the leg color is incorrect, which is the first thing to indicate they are not show quality.  There is nothing wrong with non show quality if that is what a person is looking for, but if you are going to advertise that your birds are show quality, then they should be.  The leg color should be correct, the ear color should be red, the plumage color should be correct, the birds all have to be tufted and rumpless because you cannot have show quality without each of these items being correct and to say otherwise is to lie.

If it is the ad I looked at, my first thought was, If they are lying about show quality, what else are they lying about.

On a different note, araucana are definately funky and sometimes frumpy looking but watching them just makes me smile.  What more can you ask of an animal that gives you breakfast.

Then there is the ad for large fowl araucana eggs.  It says the eggs are from their show quality flock and only 1 of the birds pictured is show quality and its a bird that I am pretty sure used to be Ann Charles bird.  The rest are not show quality.  But they do have some nice looking birds pictured and they are definately araucana which is a huge step above alot of other people.

For me though the biggest clue is if they can't spell " Tufted".  There is alot of ads that say tuffed.  Maybe it is a pet peave ( and yes I realize my spelling is bad, I blame my fingers not my brain)  A serious breeder with something worth buying will not only have pertinant words spelled correctly, they will be honest about what they have.  I would also point someone to the Araucana Club of America in my ad where a potential buyer to learn about the araucana and judge for themselves the quality or voracity of my claims.

egg yes they are my favs too, chase me around for treat and jump up on my arms or shoulders or even my lap if I am sitting.

I'll never show but would like to make some improvements to my flock. They will probably never be perfect but I will love them all the same.

Yes Lanae said they were show quality and they don't look like it, that was my point. still haven't heard anything, not even that my eggs were shipped. Won Thursday night and pd immediately, said ship day after payment hmmmmmm
