What some chickens will eat - GROSS

Mine must be strange b/c I hear all you guys talking about they eat anything and everything and mine refuse!!! Some kitchen leftovers they love(breads...although I soak it in water before I give it to them b/c I've heard people say that it swell in their stomaches and kill them(vet told me!). Anywho, of course leftover scrambled eggs, oatmeal(they pick at and eventually finish it off may take all day) beans(same deal). Veggies and fruit sometimes they will snub altogether depends on the day...at best they'll peck it a little. I tried a leftover baked chicken once(we usually as a rule don't eat meat in our house(health issue) and just limit it to when we eat out) but we had company thus the bakes chicken and since there was alot left over I figured "high protein" NOPE!!! Totaly snubbed! Not even a peck...it was almost like I offended them!!! What's up with my picky eaters? They LOVE sunflower seeds(been buying a 50lb. bag of that once a mth!!!) They can't get enough!

Oh..forgot to mention that they free range so I guess they must be plenty satisfied with their bugs, grass, etc.

Do you get the sunflower seeds with the shells on? I was wondering if mine would like them for a treat.

Most of the time my chickens will eat anything. They don't like banana peels.

I got three of my chickens from a lady who said her veterinarian said to feed only chick starter or a flock raiser until birds are a year old because it has the most correct protein balance for them.
I had been feeding my birds all kinds of things from the minute they went outside to the "big coop" outside the brooder and they peck at ANYTHING.

I notice the three birds I got that were raised on chicken feed only are always the slowest to try anything, and those three did not eat any table scraps or anything different I gave them for a couple of months when I first got them.

So perhaps it has to do with how they were raised.
