Calling all Penedesencas Owners/Breeders

My partridge penedesenca got et and I have an old maid left so I think I may be done with penedesencas. Now have lavender orpington roo and australorp hens and have first cross. Thinking about breeding back to roo and then crossing with blue birchen maran. I always had problems with my penedesenca roos comb's getting frostbite.

I hope you get a breed that does well for you there!

Thank you Ron. My daughter loved hugging the chickens when she was little but the penedesencas were so skittish and some of the hens and all the roos were aggressive. Now she is off to college. It has been frustrating to get all the pieces together to breed penes... just when I was about ready some mishap would come along. Somehow I hope to get my mutts to a have a carnation comb and white earlobes but further down my list. My priorities are 1. docile/child friendly 2. reliable egg layers 3. dark eggs 4. carnation comb 5. white earlobes 6. black/blue/lavender splash color.

Penedesenca chickens are very hard to find for sure

Hi! Pene mom here. 4 of my Partridge Penes have went broody, one hatched out, one hatching as I type and other two hatching today or tomorrow. I'm astonished at how much their personalities changed when they became broody. They are the flightiest chickens normally however I've been able to handle them because they are absolutely unwilling to leave their eggs. They have been even more dedicated mom's than my cochins. Has that been anyone else's experience?

Yes, that has been my experience too! I have 3 Partridge Penedesenca hens but no rooster for them. My broody Penedesenca makes such a cute fuss finding tidbits for her Easter Egger chicks.
