Three days this week my eggs have gone missing. Monday before I left for work I went out to the coop and collected the eggs, I left 2 under my silkie who is considering going broody. Come home no eggs. None. Not only where there none from the other ladies, the ones under my silkie were gone. Tuesday- same thing no eggs when I get home. 20 chickens most of laying age usually get 8-9 eggs a day. Wednesday I am home from work because the kids are sick- 8 eggs. Today, no eggs at all. I cleaned the coop before work so they had not layed yet. Little (maybe) broody silkie in her nest box all day. The nest boxes all had new pine chips in them when I left. You can see where the girls went in and pushed it all around to get cozy and lay their egg. No eggs! Not one! It's too cold for snakes, and anything else that might get in there would hurt the birds. So I am thinking this is a person doing this. I am SO upset! The idea someone is coming in the yard while I am gone is horrible. The only other animals around here are squirrels and rabbits. UGH!!! DH will be home most of the day tomorrow and is hiding his car in the garage and doing a stake out. Who would do something like that? I give my eggs away free to people all the time when they ask. Why steal? I am thankful none of my chickens have been hurt.

definately lock the coop, this happened to a friend except chickens started dissapearing too and the pen had a complicated latch that is only people friendly.

I saw a sprinkler with a motion sensor that sprays a blast of water at intruding pests (like racoons) made by contech, lol I've been really tempted to try it for people who cut through my property during events.

I got one of those Remington hunting cameras that take photos or videos with an SD card. It is thermally activated, so you could place it somewhere a human would have to cross to get to the coop or at the coop gate, but it would not pick up your chicken activity. You can mount them to trees and it is lockable. Works day or night. I purchased mine from Dick's Sporting Goods for about $90.
