I just received an e-mail from her, she wants one of these:


First, I don't think it's right. People have no idea how to care for something this wild IMO. Our local animal refuge has one or two of these creatures, because the owners work during the day and couldn't take the destruction the poor animal caused in the house when it was home alone and bored!

I just don't think it's fair to keep these kinds of animals in a household (especially if you have others like we have INCLUDING CHICKENS!

Cute and cuddly when a cub, but wait till it grows up. If it would get loose it could kill a young child. Way too dangerous to keep as a pet.
Maybe your dd could move in with croc girl and keep all the exotic pets she wants. Just kidding,

Yep, nuts. When it grows up, there is absolutely no way that it can be safe around humans, or even the family dog, and that's when they end up either in a rescue centre or dumped.
 
Cute and cuddly now, but in 8 months will be hunting you chickens, domestic cats and small dogs. Cats have a high prey drive anyway, much stronger then dogs IMO.

She could get a Bengal, which looks pretty similar but is less likely to hunt your chickens. Oh and Bengals are legal to keep, in most states you have to have a permit to keep anything slightly exotic. I'm surprised they have them at the animal refuge, but I shouldn't be after seeing the large cats and even bears people would keep as "pets" on Animal Cops: Huston.

I always wanted a Siberian Tiger and a wolf....lol...I grew out of it.

I can't imagine buying a lynx's natural diet, let alone the cost of an enclosure, whatever damage is done to the house, etc.
My dad always said this whenever us kids would ask for something: "do you have the money?" I guess I was too poor to afford trouble.

I agree with you. Lynx should be free and wild, except perhaps those that are injured and can't make it in the wild. Boy, everytime I see one I think how exquistely beautiful they are....

I saw a show on tv the other night about how we are breeding dogs to be the size, shape and look that WE want them to be. I'm sure when someone first took a wolf in and made it a family pet people were saying "OMG, that wolf will kill you and your kids and your livestock". Now the dog is mans best friend.

Look at how we got domesticated cats:
The cat was first domesticated by the Egyptians around 2000 BC. It was probably the result of cross breeding the Libyan Wild Cat* with one or more small cat species such as the European Wild Cat*, the Cretan Wild Cat**, the Sand Cat and/or Pallas' Cat. Or it may literally have been bred from a mutation of one of the aforementioned wild cats. The Egyptian Pharaohs were great experimenters in the collection, domestication, and breeding of animals. Armies were literally sent abroad to collect exotic animals. The cat of course was far and away the Egyptians most successful experiment.​
