want a tip that will make your hens lay like its spring in the winter

I don't know if this helps, but I was told by a lady who had raised chickens for years,to a a teaspoon of cayenne and a tablespoon or so of cooking oil(to help make up for fewer bug to eat) per gallon'ish to their water. I just remembered this since I've went from 9-10 per day to 0 and am still waiting for my young hens to start laying. I started this week, and threw some garlic trimmings in for immune system, so hopefully it kicks in soon.

I use cayenne pepper to help boost egg production. The object of them eating the hot pepper flavor is that it also promotes water intake. They can't taste the heat of the pepper but it urges them to drink by increasing their thirst.

do you have a heater in your coop?........I keep mine at 60 degrees, and I live in northern MN........where it gets -50.........my egg count rarely goes down

Thanks for the tip! Will give it a try at some point some of my chickens are laying eventhough it is - 18c. I got 18 eggs this morning. My chickens are the standard little red hens and they are great layers. I love their antics. Getting some Icelandics in the Spring I hope they will lay well as well.
