Bay Area BYCers! - Page 749

Cheryl, I would do the surgery if the bird was here, but it's up in Santa Rosa at DSO's house.  He is not as good at these things, and would not be diligent about changing the bandage daily.  He felt that if surgery was the only choice, he would put the beautiful boy down.  I opted for the Tricide Neo. I really hope it works.

Don't be tempting me with a Jubilee.  You know I love Orpingtons.  Seriously, I have 10 birds in a coop built for a max of 8. (I started out wanting only 3 birds, but you know how chicken math works!)  They have eaten my yard bare.  I really can't add any more.  Really. barnie.gif

okay okay, well if you change your mind...the offer stands

As far as bumblefoot goes though once you've done it really needs a 2nd bandage and then it's healed

This was our place at Halloween. I painted that mouth.

The neighbors think we're amusing.

My favorite holiday!

I'd say the house looks familiar, but there are lots like it. LOL  Where off of Santa Rita?

Half a Vicodine and I'm out for at least 12 hrs and shaky for a day. I don't handle them well. I really hurt, but just trying to get to where it isn't excruciating, so I can get things done.

I had a jail break. Now have 2 extra roos and 3 pullets running around. Going out to barricade things and put my Lav AMs in there, so I have pures to hatch. My smallest girl lays a small egg, not bantam small but close. She's got great color though and my roo has gotten huge, so hoping I get nice chicks from them. Wish my new Wellie guy was old enough for my girls. I started off only wanting Wellies way back when and I just haven't had much luck with them. This year is gonna be different for lots of things. Always one step forward, two steps back for me the past almost 2 years and I'm so done with  that.

BTW  I have some roos on the California thread if anyone is interested and I also have 3 OE chicks available. All 3 are pullets.

Kim can you take a different kind of pain Meds? I take 2 ten mg Vicodin and it helps me get through the pain. What about a different kind like Daravset (sp?)

So stinkin' cute!  I can't wait for my babies to hatch!!  I am trying to think back, make changes, and see if I can make it easier on myself this year, after I swore i would NEVER hand-raise chicks again.  Sigh.  I gave in to the skim-soy latte-extra-vanilla and some peppermint Orpington craze, so I sincerely hope some of these shipped eggs will hatch!  I am counting on a 10-50% no-hatch rate.  Fair estimate?  Eggs came from three different places in the US...

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

What all did you get Dawn?

I think a lot of the hatch rate depends on the birds that the eggs came from. I've had nearly 100% hatches sometimes and then only hatch 1 chick out of a dozen eggs the next. We can try as hard as we can to control incubation but I feel like the birds that sired the potential chicks have a lot to do with what to expect hatchability wise. How diverse the line is, whether or not the birds are healthy, how far along they are in their lay cycle, the weather and how the birds are reacting, I think it all plays a role in incubation. Among many, many other things.

I'm always happy with a 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs, I try not to expect much more.
