But seldom do the feather different but it does happen.

This is great information. Thank you.

Our chick (about 6 days old) has silveryellowishhead. It's almost too hard to tell.  Can anyone help me? I was told this is a Porcelain D'uccle bantam from another thread on this website.

with faverolles you can also color sex them at about 2 weeks old, so using the wing/feather method helps to know sooner what to watch for. the females also feather out quicker than the males.

this link has some good pics of the feathers.

I just tried to feather sex my chick but it's too hard for my untrained eye to tell. Also my chick is about 6 days old. I understand wing sexing is usually done on day 1.

HELP HELP HELP.

We are looking at getting another 5 day old bantam tonight so I need help fast.

Is it possible to wing sex them?

If so, is the rule that if it has long and short wings it's a pullet? If all the feathers are the same size then it's a rooster?

Thank you.

Feather sexing only works on certain breeds.

Bantam is a size, not a breed.  If you find a bantam in a breed that you can feather sex then yes, it will work.  I've heard though that feather sexing has to be bred that way, so you might be able to feather sex from one breeder/hatchery but not another.

I love chicken math because it can be manipulated into always working out in your favor! :)  Our house is always busy (and loud!) thanks to my husband, 5 children (4 teenagers and my baby is 11, how did that happen?!)  3 Great Danes, 2 Chihuahua mixes and of course chickens, a turkey, fainting goat that tries daily to be a house goat...that's not going to happen!

Can anyone tell me if my chicks are pullets or cockerels? I have two Bantams and two Ameraucanas. I have heard that there are many types of Bantams and Ameraucanas. I was told that Bantam #1 looks like a Porcelain D'uccle. I was also told that my 2 Ameraucanas look like Easter Eggers. Can anyone clarify what types of Bantams and Ameraucanas I have?

Ameraucana #1

Ameraucana #2
