Where to buy poultry leg bands?

We found a tub of Zip Ties that have 3 different sizes in it. The smallest one is about 4 inches long and 1/8 of an inch wide. You could easily cut the extra length off. I'm not sure where we found it though......

I can see the potential for a zip tie turning into a disaster if it some how tightens up. I do, however, concede that it is a superb idea.
I get my bands on eBay.

If you have any bantams, search American Bantam Association, they are numbered and have the year on them.

I tried the zip tie method but found them very dangerous ie: unwanted accidental tightening or even forgetting to change them in time and the get too tight and very painful and difficult to cut off

I have not tried them yet but I would put them on as loose as possible and if they get tight replace them. The best way to remove them is to cut the square end of that the tie slides through with a pair of pliers. That releases the tie and lets it open without getting too close to the birds leg.

How do you keep the zip ties from getting tighter?
Snip off extra end piece. Check frequently and cut off to replace when chicken grows. I've heard if you don't snip off the end piece other birds can peck at or pull it tight. Never had that problem yet. I do sit outside a lot and while enjoying the entertainment the birds provide I also am looking at leg bands, eyes, combs, checking for dirty butts, just overall health or problems.
