Yes, you will find hard feathers in the wings and tails of the boys. The fewer, the better. In more time as they get older, the wing feathers will "shred". It will look like someone sliced them with scissors!
So hens dont have these hard feathers? If thats so I have all roosters.... 
They all have wing feathers. The wings fill in first, then the rest of the body slowly follows to fill in with adult plumage and lose the chick down. Just like a regular feathered breed, but with the fluff.

Note on my pullet you can see her wing feathers. This is what yours will look like as they get older. This girl is a good example of a good quality bird.

The only color I could not get right away was SPLASH.... and that is my FAVORITE of all silkie colors now that I've had plenty of time to admire!!!













 I don't have any paint yet, but I do understand that spots can come later. You have a great start on your chicken math!!
