I wanted to share a picture of Cali from yesterday. She has some red in her crest from the sun.

I have more shade for them in their pen now, so I'm hoping that will help after she molts..

It's my experience that the silkie boys just loove a bantam cochin girl!  This seems a great idea!

Don't feel bad!!!  I didn't know any better either!  I thought it sounded like a great idea!!    I would have ended up with a purple bird and then wondered what happened!  hehe!

I've used it a lot on horses. I guess feathers just aren't the same!

And thanks to all those who commented about my situation. I use to have a frizzled cochin hen, and I really wish I had her now. She would have been perfect for him. He actually reminds me of her, as far as personality. Anyway, I contacted a friend who has chickens to see if he has any cochin girls or anything about that size (he has a mixture of breeds, so maybe!).

Well, it certainly does not ALWAYS happen, but I certainly would not recommend using it without a test shampoo on a bird where colouring doesn't matter.

* NOTE, no silkies were harmed in creating the above photo, but two were quite humiliated.
