sorry... another breeding question here. If I were to start off with roo, would he be miserable until I got him a woman??

Do you have any other chickens? I mean other than silkies? If so then he will love a large women just the same as a silkie one...until you give him a silkie...but my roos do love their 'larger' women...lol

How small are the babies? If they are out of the brooder you could pen them side by side and even possible put them together under careful watch. My roo adores babies of all ages. Some roos will kill babies.

That is a great idea!! They are 5-7 weeks old. I was thinking of giving him his own home. But I could put him right next door. I just don't want the poor thing to be miserable until I get him a date!

Thanks y'all!

I'm sure one day i will see some more up to par with ur guys birds once i start goin to more and more shows but thank you every one

Do not take me the wrong way Sager - I am by no means knocking your birds - they are good looking birds :) I definitely like the hen of yours over all 3 birdslove.gif

I did not know that Canada held to the same standards - it makes sense that the quality isn't there yet because the want and demand isn't there as high as it is here.

Sager - the hen is the best - she has the better overall type - shorter back, more cushion, etc. the Pullet has a longer back, don't like her comb being as big as it is at her still being a pullet - it may get bigger by the time she finishes maturing (how old is she, are you sure its a girl??)  The roo looks good all the way til that tail - which I've told you that before about this guy - his major fault is his tail and the hard feathering, he still has the completely wrong tail shape overall.

Out of the 3 I would show the hen up there, and try to show the pullet. All in all the only way to learn is to enter all 3 of them and see how they do in a show and talk to breeders and judges up there on where and what to improve on.

Okay maybe it was because his tail was still damp? Hold on now I got to go back and find his pictures again. LOL

She has a shorter back, much more butt/cushion which you want to see. Her crest is on the slighter/modest size, but she looks to have good feet, a good curve to the chest you want to see also looks to have nice dark eyes...Her wings are a bit loose and sloppy in this bottom picture but it may just because shes a mad wet hen..lol  Her only two things I dis-like is the comb size (the overall size and mass of it takes away from her feminine look especially on top of the crest) and the crest size as you already know. - but she has the potential to be a great foundation bird to start with breeding wise, and up North of the border I think she'd do fairly well in your shows.

Pullet

IMG1135.jpg

The pullet I can't see her foot feathering but first off she has the longer back and much less butt/cushion fluff than the hen does. She's much weaker overall than the hen, but how old is she? if shes a young pullet she has the potential to fill out a little or a lot more.

here is the cockerel

IMG1144.jpg

Looking again, okay yes your right - he doesn't have the tail the other one did, he has what looks like some hard feathers but males are allowed SOME - just not the tail full the other one had... This guy doesn't have a thick cushion, I'm wondering if he's molting? He looks off balance with no 'weight' / mass to his butt! lol

but he has a nice stance, overall body, short back, high tail. Like the wings on him, can't see his feet well but looks like the foot feathering is good. Looks like his eye color is on the darker side (which you want) - his comb looks good proper shape, no horns or disruptions to the comb, not overly large nice and rounded decent mulberry coloring...
