Silkie thread! - Page 1595

Can anyone tell me what to expect out of this cross?

White Silkie Roo with Blue and Black hens that were out of BBS.  I also have a redish showgirl hen.  Could I get white, black, blue, splash?  Or will I get a dilluted color?

I also have a blue roo and a splash roo in the same pen and the blue seems to be the more dominant of the three.  I was just wondering what would happen if my white breeds the girls, what colors would hatch if I incubated them?

I am going to build more pens and get my whites seperated so I can get more pure whites.

Thanks!

I am also hoping to meet silkie folks at the show I have coming up - not exhibiting as I don't have anything to

show yet - but I can't wait. I think you should use your guy with girls with better wings. My bird carries his up high,

but a bit out if that makes sense. Like he's puffed out, high but not tight. Hopefully it isn't his diaper doing it to him. hu.gif

Does anyone have any pics of silkie chicks that non-bearded vs ones that are? How would you tell if you got a chick that was going to bearded?

Super guy!  Wish those wings were a little tighter. Maybe he just fluffed them.

This is him still half wet so he's not all fluffed--- BUT you can see his wings pretty good after his bath.  Usually they are covered up by fluff.  Now I realize they are REALLY loose!  But how bad are they???  Bad enough not to breed???  Since he's my only decent boy, I'd like to give him a shot.  Thoughts on that???  (oh and ignore his crest here-- it was half flattened from his bath)

Here's another one after his bath:  (he's a little hunched over here, though)

His wings don't look very bad to me. Do you have photos of him when he was younger? My blue boy had really tight wings till I gave him some girls at 7 months and they've never come up again. I was told that they lower them for the girls to see. wink.png

I'm still trying to learn about wings. He was sort of sun-bathing and doing a lot of flapping so it's possible that he was carrying them somewhat loosely. He surprised me with that pose, quite frankly. I do intend to show him so I will make a point of asking for opinions from the judges. I appreciate the feedback! Thank you!!

White is an off switch for color, it hides visible colors so there is no telling what genetics (color) hides under that rooster's white. You won't know until you breed him.

You want to breed the blue or the splash over the blue and black girls, you'll get varying shades of blue, a few black, and splash offspring.

The reddish/buff showgirl you'd get smutty off colored buffs, or a high chance of what I call 'mutt color' (off colored) chicks most likely when breeding her to white or splash or blue.

Ok, comb question. I read on the ASBC site this morning, the SOP on the front page. It calls for the comb furrow to lay "transversely" on the comb. I am assuming this means east to west (horizontal) and not vertically? Would a comb with a vertical furrow be a DQ or a serious fault?? Would you breed an otherwise nice roo with this problem, or cull out of the breeding program?
