We love our Nankin hen. She's very sweet and good natured, excellent bird for beginners or kids. She comes when called, she's an excellent bug hunter, likes to sit on your lap (or head, or...

I have 6 Barnies, they did start laying at about 28 weeks, but that is not an issue with me. Most of my poultry did. They don't lay the really dark eggs, but they are large, dark brown and some...

Leghorns are great egg laying chickens. They are friendly to other Leghorns and can easily fly. The only problems is that they are bad in the pecking order and they can make a mess of the yard....

I only have the camera on my phone, and the color quality is not good enough to get the true color of this chick, so my question is ...... do all chicks that start out yellowy turn into white chickens? The chick is a yellowy beige, not really straight yellow.
I have 4 leghorns that started out yellow, now as their feathers are coming in, they are white.Â
Is it the same for silkies?
I was hoping this would be a buff (reason I bought it), as I already have a white, but that chick was a little older when i got it, and no yellow at all.

well, I tried to take a picture of my two... but my camera is not the best.Â

Buff on the left, white on the right. They are darker in person and the white is yellowish. These little ones are 7 days old.Â

Thanks!! AAAWWWWW, Too Cute!! Your buff looks like my little chickie! Thanks for posting that pic!I noticed that your white has a really 'poofy' poof. Could that at all be an early indication of sex in Silkies? I have noticed that some are more 'poofy' throughout all the pics I have looked at.

I saw above where you posted a pic of your beautiful Splash....WOW
what a gorgeous bird!!Â

ÂQuote:I have heard yes, it's fine, once they are integrated, but I'm interested in actual btdt, because at this point, all of my babies are planned to be going in with the big girls. Mine are perching now, so I'm hoping once we get the lower perch in there, they will use that at night, because it would be better than puppy piling on the floor and potentially getting pooped on...........

Blue, black and splash can be kept together. Buff is separate and white is separate.Â
The way the Blue gene works in a breeding can be broken down as follows:
1) Blue x Blue: This will produce 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash.
2) Black x Blue: Produces 50% black and 50% blue.
3) Black x Splash: You'll get 100% blue.
4) Blue x Splash: Produces 50% blue and 50% splash.
5) Splash x Splash: This will give you 100% Splash.Â
