A couple of good starting points are Genetics of Chickencolors and Basics and Poultry Genetics for the Non-professional.  Depending on what you already know about genetics in general, there are others that are more in-depth.

Sonoran, do you know anything about this book? Such a reasonable price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BOOK-21st-Century-Poultry-Breeding-Chicken-Genetics-/270732340875?pt=UK_Magazines&hash=item3f08e7ae8b

It should be pretty good; Grant definitely knows his genetics, and this is not his first book.

HORRBLE!  I ordered 6 brahmas and a silkie and they arrived today.  The silkie was dead, 2 of the brahmas, and another brahma looks like it won't make it!  he.gifhit.gif

I love my Buff Brahmas!  There always seems room for more :)

4 Buff hens, 2 light Brahma hens, 1 Rooster, countless chicks, 3 EE's, 6 Buff Laced Brahmas 5 GLB, a flock of silkies........ and more on the way :)

I dealt with a late death-- 4 days later and they refunded me.  ( I dealt with Meyer)  I called them the very next day after they arrived to tell them the one chick didn't look good.  Good thing I called, because he ended up living past the time alloted for healthy chicks.  He died the next day-- he was barely hanging in there the whole time.  But because I had called earlier to tell them he wasn't doing good, they refunded him.  Shipping is hard on them, but most of them do usually make it.  Sorry about your chicks!

As has already been stated, Silkies work like any other chicken as far as genetics are concerned. smile.png  I've been using "Genetics of Chicken Colours: The Basics" by Sigrid van Dort in Holland. http://www.chickencolours.com/ She also wrote a book on Silkies. Loads of pictures in both books. Makes this stuff VERY much easier to understand but it's expensive. I have several other books on poultry genetics as well but I found I really couldn't understand them until I had Sigrid's book. It is SO true what they say - a picture is worth a thousand words ....
