Silkie thread! - Page 1707

I have a blue pullet that I got from PamB in February and she said that she should be laying any time now. Well a few weeks after I got her my paint hen was laying eggs and one day I found 2 eggs and one was where she was. She hasn't laid one since and shes out in a new coop where she can get outside and everything. She still hasn't laid any eggs and shes been in the new coop for a long time now. I don't know why she isn't laying. Anyone know why shes not laying?

Hello all! I know this is the thread for pure silkies, but I am so excited that I had to share! Just for fun last year, I put my black silkie hen in with my gold bantam phoenix. This sweet little girl was the result:

450

Well, I decided to put her with my grey silkie rooster this spring. Here he is:

LL

And this is what I just hatched on Thursday!:

LL

I cant wait to see what they end up looking like. 2 of them have smooth feathers, but the really pretty one in front left has 5 toes and silkied feathers. Thanks for letting me sort of hijack the thread for a sec. Let me know if anyone would like updates on these little cuties.

Love the hen. Very pretty. So are the chicks. And the rooster kinda looks like mine! lol I'd love to see what those chicks end up looking like!

sheesh.. I am having a problem finding hens!! Right now I have 2 that are laying and 2 that are up and coming. And all these roos, lol! Problem is with the exception of 2 of the girls, I really like my roos a lot better. I think they are a lot nicer (different breeder than the girls). I do like the two that are coming up. They are 7 and 4 mo old and I am just hoping they stay girls, lol!!

I have the same problem. I have two cockerels that I really don't need but they are the sweetest things ever!! I also don't really have a pen to put them in since all of mine are full, really need to start building more I guess. Right now they're in my "storage"(isn't really used for storage anymore) section of my big coop and I let them free range whenever I'm out to watch them. The big hens can be mean to newcomers.

I finally got a sikie baby!!  It was the only one the guy I got her from had in with other chicks and I spotter her (or so he says) right away, as I have been wanting one for some time.  Anyways, when do they get fluffy?  I'm not sure of the age of this little one either....any ideas?  Either way I'm so excited to have her or him...so hopeing her though!   This pic was bringing her home, a bit dirty!!

Glad you got your chick! Silkies are so awesome. The amount of fluff will depend on the quality of breeding. Your chick looks about 10 days old or so. Post pictures in a couple of months and someone may be able to help with the sex. Love those big dark eyes!

Thank you!  I'm guessing I have a non-bearded silkie after researching some?

Thank you!  I'm pretty excited :)  I was kind of hoping for a real "fluffy" one but after researching I think I might have a non bearded one...all good though I still got a silkie baby.
