I brought him inside, put him in a box with towels  right under a heat lamp but unfortunately the poor thing died. Of course I didn't think to take pictures before burying the chick. Figure that one out. I take pictures of EVERYTHING. lol hu.gif

Sometimes you can just cut the cord, and put Neospirin on his bellybutton.

But sometimes, their legs, or a hatchmate, can get twisted up in the cord, and the intestines can get pulled out if pulled too hard.

Mama probably knew something was wrong, and kicked him out.

I'm sorry it happened to you, but at least you tried!

That's good to know.

It definitely looked like intestines were coming out. I'm thinking the chick came out of the egg way too fast and something went wrong. I had checked on the eggs maybe an hour before I found the chick. There's no way it would have hatched on it's own that quickly. One of the hens that had been sitting on the eggs was outside making all kinds of noise. I thought maybe it was one of those "I pooped" serenades that they sometimes do, but maybe she knew something about the hatching that I didn't pick up on.

I'll take it as a learning experience, I'll know better next time. I'm just glad that the 9 chicks hatched so far are all doing well!

OKay, I had a chick just hatch.  He did great!  Once he started to zip, he just went right for it.  :)  I took pictures of him right when he pushed out of the shell and now he's starting to fluff...  Here we go!!!  I'm thinking he's Blue???  Has a bit of a vaulted skull-- not nearly as high as his siblings have been hatched with.
