Don't do that with the vaseline.  I'm posting a picture I snagged off the net of what the bag looks like:

You NEED to have a product with "Carbaryl" in it.  Sevin is basically 95% talcum powder-- very safe and the rest is the active ingredient which is carbaryl-- that is what is going to kill your mites.  This kills them pretty fast-- within a few minutes they should all be gone.

Wish I could still find those larger bags; best I can find is a 3-pack of 1 lb cans.  And most places don;t even have those. :(

You can get sevin as a liquid to spray on surfaces; either using a pressurized sprayer or in one of the spray bottles that you use with a garden hose.  DON'T use the liquid on your birds: WAY too strong.

Some of us were discussing how we liked the really white background with dark blue spots and she posted that. Hope she or someone will post it again and this time I will copy it!!

I'm betting she catches up soon!!  I think my Splash are fine.  wink.png

I did get a picture of a couple of my splash from my 6 week olds and another couple from my 4 week olds..  They all pretty much look like this, so I didn't see any point in posting a ton of pictures!  LOL

6 week old Splash group-- this shows a great example of a darker blue base and a lighter in my Splash.  (darker on left and lighter on Right)  BELOW:

4 week old Splash-- these guys are all pretty much the same color, I couldn't really find one that was darker/lighter.  Then when I put these two back in-- I saw a chick in the back that obviously looks lighter than these two.  Go figure.

LL

BTW-- look at the beaks on these two-- the one on the left is very obviously hooked downward like an eagle-- and the other one on the right is a straighter beak.  smile.png

Also, I use permithrin drops on the birds... Another BYC-er gave this tip out. I take 1 part permithrin to 3 parts water. I mix it in a glass dropper bottle with a glass dropper... One drop on the neck, one drop on each foot it its legs mites, and treat again in 10 days, this is for silkies... I use 2-3 drops if its a LF bird. Cheaper than buying frontline, or anything like that, and it has the same active ingredient. I used it on my Faverolle Roo Mr. Fluffers. Worked great.

At the very least, wipe the poop off your feet before getting in the car.

Beautiful chicks!! The darker one in the first photo looks light blue to me. If so, it will become obvious soon. I love the light blues!

Yes, I would consider the darker one in the first pic a Blue too. idunno.gif

Yeah, I'm wondering if she may turn out blue, too.  I figure a few more weeks... I'll know!  That one didn't hatch out in the typical blue color for me-- looked like a Splash hatch.  I'll post a pic of my Blues.  They are really cool looking right now.

Very well could be, but I do have an adult Splash that is this base color under her spots.  So no telling right now until it gets a bit older.  wink.png

I lost all of my silkies except my roo roger... the one that got scalped by a hawk a month or so ago, and 3 wyandotte chicks that Leila was fostering. It managed to get in by going in between the dog run and the coop, pulling the fencing off on that side of the coop tractor. I put that side against the dog run cuz I knew it was a weak side until I could buy the last of my trim wood to sandwiche the last section of fencing. I am so mad at myself. I just ran out of money and still needed about $30 in wood, and was getting that on tuesday when I get paid again. I can see on the fencing where it tried to get in at other places as couldn't, so I know I did a good job there, but I thought that putting the tractor up against the dog run on its weak spot wouldnt give room for anything to get through.

Lesson learned. I am so mad I am in tears.

I am so sorry :-(
