I just used the dirt I had in my yard and cut it with a little sand. I got lucky because the dirt was nice and loamy. I would stay away from heavy clay based soil as it may stain. Do take caution with sand. Read labels. I'm guessing play sand should be safe.

eta: There are safe options out there. Just as with everything else, you must do your research.

Yes read the back of the bag.  I was dumping that in my daughters sandbox until I read the back of the bag and nearly fell over dead.  Says "contains known carcinogen".  In kinds sandbox sand.  OMG are you kidding, you know how many parents probably never read the back.  It was an accident that I did!

So, here's a question.....

Am I asking too much for Snowman and Bouffant? Is $30 outrageous?

From what I have learned from this site, a red comb is an absolute no-no, and one of my favorites- a redish roo, exhibits that trait. He is really outgoing and fearless and beautiful, but I want to breed the best that I can so I guess if anyone is looking for a funny little pet, he is available. I'll post some pics next week and ask everyone to weigh in on possible colors. Don't stone meidunno.gif but I purchased them from McMurrays, and surprisingly, some of them are looking fairly good. I live in Easton , MD if anyone would like the boy for a pet. Thanks to all the people here who love their chickens and offer their experience and knowledge to draw from! Carol Heisterhagen

Hi frow.gif I'm from Royal Oak! It's nice to see someone from my area. I too have been lucky with a few of my hatchery Silkies looking awesome, mine came from Ideal. Can't wait to see your pics!

Shipped eggs take a terrible beating even when packed well. The only way to know for sure it was infertile would be to break it a look for the bullseye. I have purchased many shipped eggs from many reliable breeders and three times I got a zero hatch. One time I got one out of 12. Once I got 14 out of 20. You just never know. Please be happy if you get a few. :)
