I know this has probably been said, i had a page bookmark but can't find it for the life of me... What woukd you get if you breed a white to a blue or a white to a black?

We just lost our partridge showgirl which i am mad about, we were planning on rehoming our white showgirl roo cause hes a he, but my husband is now pondering the thought of us keeping him...

But was wondering what colors chicks we'd get....

Indeed!  I didn't even think of that.  But of course, that going to be the transmitter.  Our horses are vaccinated yearly for West Nile for the same reason-- because mosquitoes can infect them from other animals.  

Honestly, there is no way to eradicate all disease because of the bugs that will transmit them anyway.  It sounds like your bird recovered pretty fast.  Here's what I would do--- go ahead and keep her quarantined for the next 3 weeks.  Watch her closely.  Watch the others closely.  Dust them again in a couple of weeks, because the eggs that the mites left will be hatching again around that time.  Use Sevin to dust them when that happens.  Don't put them with anyone else until you have caught the next wave of parasites and they are looking really clear.  Use your discretion and common sense.  I wouldn't want to cull her either.  I always treat.  I don't know, I'd be leary about adding her to the flock if you say your others have never been sick.... that would concern me.  Reevaluate the situation after your quarantine and see how you feel then.    I would pick her up and listen to her lungs and check routinely for crackly lungs.  You can hear it by putting your ear up to their back and sometimes their breast.  The back is easier.  I have a stethoscope, so of course, that would be the best way to listen.

Thanks a bunch! Sound advice and I will absolutely follow it and keep you posted (if that's okay) in case anything changes and I need more advice. I appreciate your help. I know there is a forum for sick birds but I have followed this thread for a while now (and love it BTW) and you are all so knowledgeable that I figured better/easier to ask here.

He definitely has a brain injury commonly called wry neck. Here is what Hawkeye posted a few days ago. "I know with turkeys you can give a Vit E twice a day-- but you might want to do a google search inside BYC to see how much a smaller bird would need.  Also-- the probiotics have Vit E (among others in it)-- so very important to get all of this stuff into the bird as long as it's having swelling or showing symptoms."

White may hide genes of many different colors so there is no way to know what you will get but very likely you will get many non-standard, possibly undesirable colors.

So it would be better if we were to keep a roo it be blue or black?

Blue, black or splash would be best. :)  This is referred to as BBS like the chicks I just posted. Here is how the blue gene works.

 

1) Blue x Blue: This will produce 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash.
2) Black x Blue: Produces 50% black and 50% blue.
3) Black x Splash: You'll get 100% blue.
4) Blue x Splash: Produces 50% blue and 50% splash.
5) Splash x Splash: This will give you 100% Splash.
6) Black x black: 100% black

So your telling me i need to find myself a splash roo lol
