He is a buff...but as far as showing, he isn't great quality.  BUT you are a junior right?  You said you are going to do FFA?  As a juniors bird, he might not take top marks, be he would be just fine to use as showmanship.  He has some faults, but that won't count against you in showmanship.  You just need to be aware of what they are as a judge will ask you what your birds strengths and weaknesses are.

Edited to add:

Check out the buffs here http://www.hattricksilkies.net/buff.html  There are some better quality buffs for you to compare.

Only two have names so far out of the 7 hatched (3 silkies and 4 LF mixes). This ones name is Captain Kirk. I'm thinking of naming the two darker blues, Sulu and Chekov. My dad and I watched Star Trek every day when I was younger. Its scary how many people my age have never even heard of it.

I'm feeling that single photos of silkies placed on this thread are not always enough to give an accurate picture. I've been trying to take some photos of my lovely black youngsters for several weeks to post here. However, every single shot comes out terrible...they move around and squirm so the pics are either blurred or make the black feathers look faded or their bodies look out of proportion. I even took to trying to sneak pics, with no luck!

I have been a hatching fool the past little while and am about to wrap it up for the year and sit back and let everything grow out a bit. I am adding a few new breeds to my silkie farm :)

Right now though, I am jumping for joy that my Marneypoo eggs are pipping!!

Sooo cute!! thumbsup.gif

I really like DE for flies....it rids them in about a day in my laying hen coop.

Hey guys! Hope all are well. Sorry it's been a while, but I still have my 3 new Silkies in my house....they are driving me crazy!! I hope the rain holds off and my son can get their coop and run done this week.

Anyways, I have a question about one of my 3.5 week olds. This is the one that hatched yellow with the purple smutty area on its back. It seems to be getting that color overall with some buff mixed in.

I hope these pictures are ok--they are pretty true to color. Anyone know what color it may be?

Haha don't I know it.  I can never get a good pic of my girl.  Shes always looking the wrong way or at an awkward angle.  That is why I posted a link to Hattricks buffs so the poster asking about her buff could see what a show quality buff was going to look like. I wish i could get half decent pics of my girl.  She is so much prettier in person.

How is this for irony. Everyone has been posting how banty eggs~ especially Silkies~ tend to hatch early. Well, all 3 of my LF eggs have hatched and not one Silkie egg has yet. One pipped yesterday but is taking his/her time getting out of the shell. Today is day 20. roll.png

At what point should I be worried about my Silkie eggs? Everyone looked good on day 14 but I haven't candled since then.
