Silkie thread! - Page 2338

These are my new babies. From Roger, a black with gold leakage, and a white. Both are bearded...

1000 Its yellow and black...

1000

1000

And the Mama who hatched them is not a silkie...

1000

AND! This is what I found behind the brooder box today when I realized that the silkies were hatching a day early and had to hurry to get them in here and Skeeter back in a different next box with the Aug 25 hatch. SHE WAS SO MAD! Until I put her on her eggs. Well anyway...

1000

They were under a shelf, behind the brooder, between, they had to go around my air compressor, which blocks it pretty good. They had to squeeze between the compressor and the wall! OMG, 3 different chickens eggs here. LOL.

Praying that nothing happens to these ones. I do not think I could handle another devastating loss like last time. 2 more silkie eggs are set to hatch Aug 25. Only, I got them from a guy who also had a show girl roo in his pen. SO who knows what they will look like. All the hens though are white. The roos are black show girl, one calico, one porcelain and one white. SO, we'll see. I just had a hen who was broody, and had just wormed my girls since we had a capillary worm issue... SO, I got 2 eggs. Yup. Just two.

At the very least, wipe the poop off your feet before getting in the car.

I read on here that silkies are prone to hatching early, and they did indeed, they were supposed to hatch sunday. One egg is left, but I'm not sure if it's going to hatch or not. Either way, this was a nice way to start my day love.gif

I think we have twin hens lol

Black/lav split are black birds that carry the lavender (self-blue) gene. It does not show outwardly. Here is a chart for breeding and what you can expect from black/lav split.

The term split is used to indicate a recessive gene that is present, but does
is not seen, because only one copy is present (and two are needed for the gene
to affect the actual appearance).

Lav X Lav = 100% Lav
Lav X Split = 50% Lav, 50% Splits
Split X Split = 50% Splits, 25% Lavs, 25% Blacks
Lav X Black = 100% Splits
Split X Black - 100% Blacks  50% splits, 50% black.  But once again, they
are indistinguishable from each other.

Just a reminder, a split lavender is apparent ONLY from breeding
records/information.  There is NO evidence in the appearance of the bird that
it carries one copy of lav.

thank you

Peep Blessed- you're Silkies are beautiful.  I went to your site, and notice that one of your horses is named "Cor de la breyer".  I used to show custom Breyers and resin horses :)   Have about 100 Breyers, and 2 "real" horses.  Nice eye candy on your site- thanks!.    Pam-

My blue hen Lila LOOOOOVED having the chicks all to herself. We have two white hens that hogged 8 of the chicks but kept picking on the little black one. I swear they're being prejudice because of the color! lol.png Lila adopted the black chick and boy is she being a good mom for a first timer! big_smile.png It's great to see how mother nature works and how the instincts kick in.

Sooooooooooo cute!
