The idea of the book underneath one end, is to tilt the eggs to one side.  later in the day, move the book to the otherside, so they tilt the opposite way.  This is in place of a tuner in your incubator.

Pics would help, but sounds like non-bearded variety.

Also, while you are collecting eggs, store the ones you have already collected pointy end down and if you have a turner place them in the incubator this way as well. You want the air cell to be at the fat end of the egg. There are some really good threads about incubation on here that I would check out. Also, if you are going to use a styrofoam incubator check out ChookChicks "Incubator Cheat Sheet." A lot of people hatch out their chicks using this method or one that is similar. Happy Hatching!

Thanks guys!
I think I'll let my hens hatch the eggs again. Not sure if I want to use an incubator yet. I've never used one and I don't think the incubator the farm has is a great one.. But at least I'll know how to store the eggs before giving them to the hens. lol.png

Ok, that sounds like the easiest option to try first.  Set out an egg and see who goes for it.  I'll try that before going for mustard or food coloring.

Very likely beardless. Doesn't mean it's pet quality.

I have tried to look all thru this Silkie Thread... and ummm there sure is alot to read... I thought I would throw this just out. I am going to buy Silkies this spring... looking now for a coop... so my questions are any suggestions? Do Silkies roost ? do they like to sit on straw?  Do they go into a nesting box which would be level for them since they are small ? I was thinking about buying the little Briar's Trailer Coop by GreenChickenCoop company ... anyone have this as a bad idea?. I was planning on having 3 silkies ...so the small coop was going to be good for me. I live in New England. ANY and I mean ANY suggestions would be greatly appreaciated. smile.png

I've had my M Best Gray pair for two months now. I think they are close to six months. The male hasn't crowed yet. They are together 24/7. They 'talk' to each other constantly. Just finished giving them a bath and blow out. Trimmed their nails. Took almost two hours! th.gif

Mostly took so long because I only have the good use of one arm. Trying to keep them from drowning themselves in two inches of water was tricky. We figured it out together. Got to use my new toe nail trimming gizmo I bought at Pet Smart yesterday along with the nice smelling kitty shampoo.

Then it was time for their monthly portrait.

The male. I severly trimmed his crest, muff, and beard last bath. It is coming in again. Lots of dark fluff in the under part of his whole body except for his chest.

The female is a more even shade of gray throughout. I trimmed her more than the male. She's a real little piggy with her FF.

Her body is covered with pin feathers. She is slow to grow out all her feathers. I just love her coloring.

They have had quite enough of me and refused to pose nicely. This is as good as I good get a photo of them together.

They did enjoy being toted all around the house in my laundry basket. love.gif
