Icelandic Chickens - Page 1350

Kathy - what time do you have to go into work?  I hope they hatch soon for you! fl.gif

Breeding Welsummers and Barnevelders.

Having an Icelandic in the coop is like having a 2 year old in the house - they are into everything and don't follow the rules.

I have zero chicken willpower.

Maybe she's just too busy watching the eggs wiggle to bother with posting. I know I would be! smile.png

Yesterday was day 21 for my 25 Icelandic eggs. Only 8 hatched and most of them were very sticky like glue. They did not fluff up when they dried they were so sticky. I lost one baby so now I only have 7 So this just was not a very good hatch. I still have the incubator running with the remaining eggs but I don't think they are doing anything. I will probably pull the plug tonight or in the morning. sad.png

Sorry about the poor hatch rate. It sounds like the humidity was too low. It might not be too late, but add more HOT water in the bator.

Thanks Daron, I will add more hot water in there now. I figured it was humidity issues. We do heat with wood here.

ep.gif I just went and added more water and there hidden in the corner was another chick!

Sorry about the hatch, Laura.  I hate it when I get a sticky chick like that. It's weird too, because sometimes I will get one or two sticky chicks in a large hatch. I can't figure out how all the others hatch clean and I still get a sticky one or two.

No new emu action today..... just dancing and wiggling.

Sorry you had a disappointing hatch Laura but hopefully the sticky ones will dry up and be just fine. I have had many stickies. hmm.png

Kathy, they gotta dance and wiggle to get outta' that big egg! I am so excited for you.  I'll PM my tips for getting them to eat and drink. They aren't the sharpest tools in the shed! big_smile.png

Yes, Mary! I need all the tips I can get!

I soooooooo hope they don't decide to start hatching while I am at work tonight. I'm gonna take my lunch break around midnight, and come home and check on them.
