Kathy your broody and her babies are so wonderful. Make sure you keep them away from the emus! She looks like a really good Mama. I love that they are running. Where the heck are they always going? hu.gif

I am not sure when Lukka's babies are due to hatch. She has seven eggs under her and it is most definitely a staggered hatch. I will try to candle them and see if any of them look to be at the same stage of development. Any others I can take out and put in the incubator.

 

I also have a broody Ameraucana, Raven, who is sitting on four wooden eggs. I will swap those out tonight with three Isbar eggs from my incubator that are due to hatch in 11 days. Luckily she resides in the Isbar coop so the babies will hatch where they will live. 

 

Tomorrow the give-away for the cute broody nest ends on my website. I'll be glad to get it out of here before anybody else decides to go broody! Sorry Kelly. I know you want a broody but you just have broody wannabes currently!  barnie.gif Broodies!

Love my broodies!  The best "Chicken TV" show is a momma with her chicks in the yard!

That egg nest is very cute and seems to have gotten alot of attention.  Good job!!

Where did they come from ?

 

 

Icelandics,brought to Iceland by Vikings in the 9th century, winterhardy, freeranging, an ancient homestead breed that broods, a steady producer of white eggs.Very variable in color,  comb style  and feathering. Like Forest Gumps box of Chocolates, 'You never know what you are going to get". My  Homesteader Breeds;  Icelandic Chickens, Chantecler,  Delaware and Iowa Blues.

Thanks. They came from Hodges Farm. Before I bought them I asked what line they were and she told me, The Sheriff on BYC.

The group of "juvies"....they hang out in this "over the fence horse/other animal feeder" that I put in the coop thinking the hens might use it for a nest.....the juvidees have decided that it's the cool place for them to loiter...

I agree with you Mary! Icelandics must be kept pure!

I lost one chick, but the other four are doing well. I will take pictures of them if my sister did not take the camera back to my dad's store. Will run and check and see if she did.

Michael and I went out to get some dinner. In passing through the sunroom I heard cheeping. I have Icelandics due to hatch late Sunday for shipping on Monday. th.gif

It came in handy as a friend for my lone Cream Legbar baby from the Easter hatch! The big one already trained the newbie to stand in the food dish.
