Cooper - your roosters feathering is normal.  That's tail fluff you see at the base of the tail.

Mama hen went in to the coop last night and the baby couldn't figure out the ramp.  I pulled her about 4 times out of the nest box trying to get her to show the baby how to get up there.  Not so funny spending an hour trying to catch the fast little bugger. (I need a net!)  Finally got it and tucked it in with mama.

That's normal.  The feathering issue (I don't think it's fray either, but don't know what it is) is very obvious.  This is the wing feathers of my pullet that has it.  It reminds me of singed hair.

Having an Icelandic in the coop is like having a 2 year old in the house - they are into everything and don't follow the rules.

I have zero chicken willpower.

Thanks! It was a nice surprise. Now I get to see if the gene breeds true with different cross since we ate their sire. I have another that looks the same so I guess I'll keep him. The young one doesn't seem to have the autosomal red either, though that does make for pretty pullets.

Okay, got another question for the experts here. And sorry in advance if I seem to inundate you guys with pictures of the same two chicks. I'm supposed to be getting a third chick next week.

One of my Icee chicks has a comb that I like a lot. However, I'm not sure what type of comb this classifies as. Can anyone help me figure it out?

I don't know what it is, but I have a rooster that has one.

But otherwise I have not seen this with any of mine.
I originally had 10hens and 2 Roo's which are the parents of all the other 30+ 2-6 month old ones I have still alive.

My NYD hatch ended up with 9 roo's and 5 hens... Some of the Roo's are lookers, but I do have a favorite one, I will need to get some pics after I get their new run finished.
I havent hatched any Ice's in a couple months but I have 2 broodies sitting on eggs right now though.
I had to slow down because I didnt have enough coops built.... I am slowly working on that though :)

Its being built along with fences for a calf soon, a 12x36ft horse barn and getting and learning about Honey bee's not to mention the goats kidding and planting our garden two times because of the cold front that killed it the first time.

its been busy on the Bryce Family Farm in Heber AZ but I wouldnt want it any other way. I simply love to work.

That sounds like my kind of life big_smile.png I have a very similar list. Literally actually, we have everything that needs doing on a dry erase board. It is SO rewarding to be able to cross something off wink.png

I have a little tiny one I use to catch chicks. It's funny though because once they out grow it they don't forget what it was for. The adults who experienced it practically sound the alarm when the see me with it.

for any of the local members on the icelandic thread.. I will be giving my rooster and hen Golden Campine away... just a fyi.. Now the my Rooster Curly is starting to breed. Plus I have another Icelandic Rooster I believe coming up and with three more chicks I will probably have at least another....

Let me know My campine is a Great Rooster with a Capital G !!!

With all the predators up here he is a great watch rooster and protector. My hen lays about a egg a day..

They are both a shade under a year old.

Kathy, is your zoom long enough to get a picture of me?  I will stand in front of my house  holding a rose, so you know it's me.  LOL
