Icelandic Chickens - Page 1846

My Icelandic chicks have always been precocious. Pipping earlier and hatching early, I had one I name Speedy because she was doing laps in the hatcher while others were hatching.    wee.gif

Likewise in the brooder. I am going to be having a mixed brood so it will be fascinating comparing them to the Delawares and Iowa Blues.

That is going to continue on now from now on  I hope.

Life is good, and better with Icelandic Chickens !  thumbsup.gif

Icelandics, brought to Iceland by Vikings in the 9th century, winterhardy, freeranging, an ancient homestead breed that broods, a steady producer of white eggs.Very variable in color,  comb style  and feathering. Like Forest Gumps box of Chocolates, 'You never know what you are going to get". My  Homesteader Breeds;  Icelandic Chickens, Chantecler,  Delaware and Iowa Blues.

I have 2 cats, 1 Golden Retriever, 2 gold fish, and now 13 chickens. :)

Tough Cookie (T.C.) Cleo, at 6 weeks old, died in April 2012. Kanaliha Cleo, at 9 weeks old, died on May 14, 2013. They are greatly missed.
