When someone STEALS your medication.

Nurses absolutely can get fired for it. There are no rules against it. When discovered it is reported to the state Nurses Association and they will put them into either a program either inpatient, outpatient or both. Depends on the employer if they are willing to work with them and allow them to continue to work or not. But, Nobody can make the employer keep them employed. That is a liability the employer must decide if they're willing to take. And you're right, second time around and you lose the license!

To the OP, Sorry you had to experience human nature in one of it's lowest forms!

If they are repeat offenders, yes.
But, from my understanding..if its a first time offense..they HAVE to be given a chance at rehabilation...
Maybe i heard wrong then... Who knows..

I've had bottles come from the pharmacy short so I never leave the counter without counting them. Usually it's been one or two, never 8 though, that wouldn't be a mistake that would be theft. I would suggest you talk to everyone who came in and out and tell them they are missing, ask them if they saw anyone looking at them and that you have an idea who it was. They don't need to know you have no idea but they might return them.

I reported it today when the home health nurse arrived. She reported it to the surgeon's office and the pharmacy. We can rule out a pharmacy shortage as THREE PEOPLE have to count and sign off on narcs.

I also showed the nurse several bottles of various unused bottles of narcs I have from previous surgeries just to show her I am not lying and abusing myself. Some go back several years! Anyway, the surgeon ended up phoning me and is going to change my scrip to plain oxycodone. I'm still very angry and beside myself that someone close did this!
