Please don't peck me

Just wanted to take a moment to let you all know who I am. Figured I better do that since the day is fast approaching when I won't be able to resist a 'bator and those wonderful offers on hatching eggs in the "buy, sell, trade" forum. I am trying to hold out until I get a broody hen. The Mutts we have love sitting, in fact that is all they want to do when it is warm. Then in the winter they go on hiatus for 4 months. We are just starting to get one egg a day from them again. This is the biggest reason we decided to get some new chicks. We got the Mutts from DH's Dad and Grandma. They aren't the nicest chickens in the world either. Once our newbies start laying the meanies are going to find themselves in a stew pot.

Shoot, I just went off and didn't even tell you my name. The chickens are more important I guess. HA! I am Nikki. I stay at home with our 4 kids(ages just turned 5, 3, 2, and 10 months). We live on 14 acres in a very rural area. We have to drive almost an hour to find any malls, fast food, large stores, etc.

I am looking forward to participating here with everyone. No one here gets the obsession with chickens, with the exception of dh's Grandma but I rarely see her. I can't wait to start sharing our chicken adventures

Hi I am in Ga. and stay at home with an almost 3 yr. and a 7 yr.old. Try this.... I use 2 bottles of cayenne pepper mixed with about 2 pounds of cornmeal that will get your hens to laying!!!

Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks for the tip on the cayenne pepper. I decided to try it yesterday. My DH thought I was nuts! I will let you know if it works for me.

Susan, I am in Northern Dauphin County.
