Kassaundra,   I can't help with gender, but I wanted to say that those little ones are sure maturing into beautiful birds!  The fellow BYder that helped you out sure does have pretty chickens, and you are going to have beautiful ones as well  :)    Looking forward to seeing them as they grow!!!      Hope you don't have too many you have to get rid of.

Thanks, I really love the diversity.

I have room for all the pullets and one roo.  Which is going to kill me if I'm right and Ms White is a boy b/c I will keep shakespear for genetic diveristy (of color), but Ms white is so much more people friendly and love the bare neck and size.  But if she is a boy I have talked w/ the kind BYCer who gave them to me and she has more space and more need of males so she will take him back for his genetics (not his taste!) lol

I am planning on raising their offspring for meat and learning to caponize, but I would like to see it done in person before I try.  I was supose to have done that already but circumstances beyond anyones control (earthquakes resulting in basement flooding etc....)  have post poned those plans.  So if I have a lot of males I will either have to try w/o seeing it first (and soon) or process them very young (at crow) (that is assuming I can do it  fl.gif)  or the BYCer has offered to trade any out that I think are males for chicks from the same batch that may be females.

That is good that you have the option of sending Ms White back if she is Mr. and that he wouldn't be for food.       I love your diversity as well!!!

Good luck with the food thing in the future. I know it could be a good idea, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

My husband is convinced I won't either, and he absolutely wants no part of it at all

I don't often bake chicken whole b/c it is just my husband and I, but I decided to cook beer butt chicken last night, he made the comment about the whole cooked bird, how much it looked like one of our "babies".  He still ate it, but he didn't look at it the same as before we had the chickens.  My husband is a huge softie, we even have to get the live rodent traps and haul them off, to live in the country!!!!!  Except when they have the misfortune of getting caught when I'm home, then it's straight to the run where my girls KNOW what to do w/ a rodent!!!!!

I only have bantams, I wonder if they would eat the mice or if they are too large.     I had a few poops as evidence there were some mice out at the coops ( along with a few snakes), but I put the food in the coops and now I haven't seen any evidence since.   I suppose they could chew a hole in the coop if they wanted the feed bad enough.  I hope to not see any...don't want that problem, a long with snakes too.  Hoping they will stay away so the snakes will.  We do however have a lot of toads and skinks, so I guess the snakes will always be around too  idunno.gif

I don't know about bantams eating mice, but I would bet they would if they could swallow it.

They don't usually eat the mice in the coop b/c they don't come out until after dark and the chickens can't see them.

Beer butt chicken is the best way to bake a whole chicken in my opinion.  If you don't have beer in the house (we usually don't) then you can use a soda can.
