Is it possible to get a fully feathered chick from 2 Naked Neck parents?  My guess is that the NN's are probably not  pure as alot of my NN's have fairly big bowties.  My barred rooster has a fairly big bowtie also.

 

Reason I ask is that my NN roo is the only barred chicken I have on the place and I have a barred chick that hatched that doesn't have a naked neck.  There was 1 other breed that hatched with them  Lavender Ameraucana roo over Dark Cornish hens.  Most of those were black or chipmunk striped.  There was also one Lavender Ameraucana that hatched with them.

 

 

Where did the totally barred chick come from?

draye- yes definitely.  its as you guessed, two not pure for NN throwing some fuzzy necks.  not pure NN bred with non-NN will produce half fuzzy necks.

 

if you don't have any white chickens, chances are the barred NN roo is the father.  

 

btw- your lav x cornish chicks(the striped ones) proved the lav roo is not pure for solid black(if the hens have been separated from other roos for 3 weeks).  solid lavs are a solid black chicken turned grey by the lavender gene.   

 

if you're going for lav dark cornish, use the striped chicks for this.

 

 

I'm so glad you asked this question. I purchased NN eggs and of the 6 that hatched 3 had naked necks and one was a non NN white chicken. I just assumed it was put in my order by mistake. I thought it was a Cornish Rock???

I'm just trying to produce more lavender chickens right now, I lost all my lavs but one rooster and one hen.  Now I've lost the roo.  I will try to continue with the one hen and the one baby that hatched. 

Not pure NN are very common, to me they seem more common than pure for NN birds... as a result, a few non-NN chicks pretty much should be expected any time eggs are bought. If any of the NN came out white, that chick is probably a result of not pure for NN parents.

All of the birds out of the lavender roo are lav carriers so they still are useful. Lavender bred to lavender carriers will give half lavender chicks. If your preference is solid lavenders, keep the black chicks.  Breeding the striped chicks to each other could give some very interesting colored birds.
