Naked Neck/Turken Thread - Page 413

"Having said all that, if I had to guess, and it would be purely a guess, I'd say that the Mrs. White is Mr. White, Red is a girl, the blacks all girls, blue barred a boy , pea comb barred a boy, single comb a girl. I'm no way an expert...I'd still wait until I saw saddle feathers. I have very little experience with pea combs too so I'm really taking a stab with that one. "

How about that   !     KKH said everything that I wanted to say.  Sorry Kassaundra but I think that you might be visiting the BYC breeder again.  They are all attractive birds but just how many males can you support OR  yumm yumm !!!!

Say what you mean, mean what you say, but do not say it meanly.

Has anyone started chocolate yet? Since it is such a new color I didn't think it would be in this breed yet? I would like to stick my choc orp roo over my turken hen but afraid she will beat him up....

KKH, thanks, they are 7-9 wks now, how old before they get saddle feathers?

Flower, Thanks, I only have space for 1 roo, that will be Shakespear.  If Ms White is a Mr he will go back to the breeder for genetic purposes (very large and very bare neck for her NN program).  Any other unfortunate boys will be yumm, yumm.  sad.png  That is IF I can do it!

I am trading eggs (my Oreo's EEers for a batch of NN eggs.  I think I will end up w/ about 4-6 girls from this batch, (at least reba, 2 blacks, and one barred)I am purchasing several NN pullets w/ mowhawks, and whatever females I end up w/ in the batch of exchanged eggs should be plenty of girls for my set up.

I wasn't expecting a new batch of baby chicks, but am excited b/c I was going to do an experiment w/ baby chicks and my squash/cuberit beds to see if the itty bitty chickies would do a number on squash and cuke beetles w/o damaging the plants.  I was going to have to wait until next year to try it since this batch are going to be bigger then I wanted by the time the bugs are real bad and plants big enough not to be trampled by the chickies, but this way I should have a hatch in the first week or two of June, just in the nick of time to change the direction of the expected war.  fl.gif

Just wanted to say , thank you everyone!   I am going to try to wait a few days and not do anything. Something is telling me that I am spreading " it "  by rubbing stuff on her neck.     If it gets worse, I will try everyone's suggestions, taking breaks between each method :)  I will update everyone as time goes by.  I liked the suggestion of keeping a record of the "rash", and tracking it through seasons. I just hope it goes away and stays away, and I won't be able to track it :)

Kassaundra-  love your pictures!  I am not an expert either, but I will guess on MR. White, and I was thinking that the barred birds could be told apart because the females had darker barring. Is that wrong?   Either way, you know I am in love with your barred birds :)

I do, both single comb brown egg layers and pea-ish combed green-eggers --- barred, blue barred, black, blue and splash. Can ship eggs for hatching, but not chicks.

Can't help on the chocolates.

A fellow BYCer Poco Pollo gave them to me out of the kindness of her heart after my NN hatchery disaster.
