So being around here I do raise Chickens. I have 7 hens and they all molted at the same time this late fall so I have been buying eggs for about 2 months. Just got 3 laid yesterday so hopefully they are picking back up. I have read that these khaki ducks produce over 300 eggs a year and I am wondering if maybe getting a couple would help fill the egg void when the molt happens or if I should just try to stager the ages of my chickens (which they are but they are all February hatches I think). I have raised some Peking ducks for meat before and I do recall that they were very fond of feed so I got away from them- do the khakis eat as much as the peking and do they make a lot of noise if you only have 2 or 3? Also interested in the advantages/disadvantages of this breed of duck. And how do they grow out for meat production? Thanks
My drakes were 2.5 pounds dressed out and that was when they got their curly feather. Not worth the effort of plucking IMO.
Mine lay like clockwork, but I haven't had them long so I can't comment. I staggered the age of my chickens so I don't have everyone freeloading at the same time.
